Why would you want to kill him off when you can fully succeed and save everyone, including yourself?

Seems like a foolish thing to do.

For the same reason that if you played through the first time as a Paragon, the second time you go as a renegade.

With my main Shep i'll survive and save my crew.

The only way my Shepard would sacrifice himself is to save all other crew members, but i guess that won't be necessary 'cause he'll be prepared.

I might kill off one of my Shepards. I'm making a Renegade Shepard just to kill him off, actually, but if I have to choose between sacrificing myself or one of my crew, I would.

We all know the ending of ME2 gives you the choice to sacrifice your Shepard and have him permanently killed off.

What part of NO SPOILERS ALLOWED do you not understand?

Not a spoiler if they mention it in every other article/interview/preview of the game.

From what I can tell given the information in the dev diaries, articles, and previews it seems to me that Sheperd dying is only a consequence of incompetence.

Such as: if you fail to make relationships with your squad and gain their loyalty, if you ignore the side-quests that can lead to major upgrades on the normandy and on your crews gear, if you don't take advantage of research, etc

If you don't do any of  the above, that will lead to your Shepard getting his s*** kicked in and getting killed.  Otherwise, there isn't any need for you to "sacrifice" yourself.

Wouldn't sacrificing yourself be considered a Paragon move?  You know, a "jesus" style thing?

when it comes down to it like anderson said in the first game "scarfice a thousand to save a million if their is no any other way" thats how I play my mine character like it was logical to kill balek and scafice 3 people to save millions more he would threaten while the rachni could be seen as a threat it was weak and born a new it could not even comunicate properly and its a powerfull aly.

Killing off a Shepard inherently makes him NOT my main-Shep, and I assume many others feel this way. The question as it is presented is flawed. However, I will be killing A Shepard.

That's a nonsensical position.

It's an important part of the game.  It's a big choice the player can make.  It's a spoiler, regardless of whether BioWare is already spoiling it.

Some of us avoid interviews or gameplay videos for exactly that reason.

I'll get the "everyone dies" ending once, just to see it.

I haven't decided yet.

On one hand I want my first playthrough to be really indepth, doing as much as I can.

On the other hand I want to see the "everyone dies" ending because if I don't do it first I never will.

Perhaps my first character will be a "stock" shepard story that they provide rather than an import and I'll go for the suicide run on that one, then go back with my import and do it proper.

I'm pretty certain everyone will have at least one save where their Shepard survives. Or like someone said earlier, they don't intend to play ME3.

I'm actually very interested in seeing what happens when Shepard dies! I definitely won't be doing it on my first playthrough though. ;)

no I won't

- I'll do multiple playthroughs of course to see how it ends... permanently; but I won't do it with one of the main Sheps keeping in mind that I won't play him in ME3

the thing is, I don't think it is this super noble thing... it appears to be more among the lines of:

epic fail due to not getting the teams trust... too bad, better luck next time

I've got a whole separate Shepard career where everyone dies, all set up to be imported to ME3

But my 'main' Shepard lives!

So yeah, it appears that Shepard doesn't actually sacrifice himself.
