With the advent of the Geth Scanner, Thermal Scopes are now officially obsolete in every single way.

Why risk tunnel vision to see through walls when you can slap a Scanner on and see through walls all the time without scoping in? Why make your weapon 50% heavier when you can just take a normal enhanced scope, and use the Geth Scanner?

Most importantly of all, why are the Thermal Scopes and Geth Scanner all Rare cards, when one so clearly outclasses the others?

I agree, Geth Scanner is the best gear for everyone who isn't Geth or needs Grenade Capacity.

Grenade Capacity and Geth Scanner are in my opinion the only perma-gears worth using. The rest is lacking in every perspective. I barely use any other gear.

The only reason I can see why people wouldn't use GS (which is awesome btw) is because of the white "glare" that comes with using it. Some people's eyes can't handle it.

worth using on characters which require situation awareness in order to survive (Valkyrie,Fury,Slayer). Or to pinpoint Phantoms/Geth Hunter

Other then that i prefer extra shield or weapons damage

Because I played Geth all day yesterday, I couldn't see anything while I was playing today.

That's why I don't use the Geth Scanner.

The biggest problem is that the scopes zoom in way too close. It's more a hindrance to aiming than anything. Geth Scanner and dat blur... only use it on the Valk, since she needs to be able to find targets quickly at close range. At long range, the blur is too annoying.

But it's still better than a thermal scope.

I don't use Thermal Scopes anyway. I don't use Scopes at all. I hate scopes.

If you need a Thermal scope, you're doing it wrong.

All I know is, that thing is every Ex-Cerberus character's best friend in the world. And the Paladin's, if you like freeze-cheese (I like anything that improves my chances of surviving, so.)

I've tried it on other characters, it seemed to work pretty well for them, but I can understand why some people would rather not. I have trouble finding the 'objective is this way' marker a LOT because of the way the screen bleeds to white around the edges and fades out the marker. And on characters who lack the ability to directly strike through walls, the situational awareness it brings may help the player, but if it isn't directly contributing to the character's ability to kill something, more aggressive players are right to skip it for their playstyle.
But I never take it off my Cerbs now. Smash through wall, duck around corner, Lash, roll back behind wall, body parts everywhere and I was never even shot at.

Thermal scope allows me to headshot hiding phantoms at range. Geth scanner does not.

Wait... Were thermal scopes ever useful?

I only use it sometimes. I'd feel cheap if I used it all the time.

Don't wanna develop a dependency either.  It's definitely game-breaking.

I only ever use/d the SR thermal scope on the CSR to swap out it's default scope view (still use it sometimes even with GS equipped)... don't care about the weight with an infiltrator. I don't really see geth scanner and thermal scope as comparable equipment - sure, they kind of have a similar function, but GS never replaced it.

Even fully specced out Marksman for accuracy will not make Saber as accurate as Thermal Scope. With a scope you can fire it full ROF and every bullet will hit exactly where you aim, without it - it'll scatter a bit, unless you're Jay.

Tangentially, it also speaks to the balance of hunter mode itself. RoF, Damage, Accuracy, Speed, AND Scan all wrapped into a single power.

Don't forget the downsides to it. Granted, most good players know how to live with it/circumvent it, but it's there.

And on topic, I can't think of a single video game where an optional scope was useful.

I'd feel bad about using Geth Scanner if all the enemies couldn't see trough walls as-well, but since they all do - I don't.

The only downside is the base shields penalty: -250 or -375 depending on kit. That has minor impact on well equipped geth. And considering that wall hack makes 0 fitness builds viable, then its impact is even more mitigated. You can see that Bioware was mindful of this when they designed Ascension mode, which penalizes Total health and shields in exchange for meager benefits.

I use it sometimes, but I always find myself going back to armored compartments or grenade capacity. Or even the weapon amps. You're just missing out on way too much good stuff by using the geth scanner. I know someone who uses the geth scanner on his quarian male engineer, that made no sense to me.

I fullt agree that it is amazingly powerful, but I still never use it. I hate the visual so much it's barely even worth it with the accuracy/rof/damage boosts of real hunter mode.

Even with the brightness turned way down it makes me want to Image IPB

A geth scanner wont remove the CSR's fugly scope.
A thermal scope will not give me a headache.

Thermal scope was always obsolete though... it wasn`t outdated because of Geth scanner either. They take different slots in the game.

I definitely don't use the Geth Scanner all that much. For one, I don't like to see all of that crap on my screen every match and this game is already easy enough as it is...Geth Scanner makes it much more so.
