I see that a lot of peope seem to be under the impression that your squadmates can't equip armour, and that SuZe is going to be rocking nippleclamps while bouncing around hazerdous planets.

I find it very hard to believe that Bioware would remove the ability for our squadmates to equip other armour.

If a dev HAS confirmed this, or if it has been confirmed in an article, please could someone post a link?

Thanks

Well, right here you can see Thane wearing a full-face helmet on the Flotilla. So, atleast we know they arent gonna be walking around barefaced on hazardous world.

No squads do not get new armor like that.. per-say, it has been said they may get a alt outfit.

Oh look, it's our resident engineer madman, with the eyes of an eagle/hawk, Radahldo! :D
You've gained some weight, judging by your avatar. :\\ I guess I shouldn't be speaking, I'm feeling a bit green myself. :
And it's been confirmed that you can't equip your squadmates with amor WITH STATS. What I mean is, the armor you can equip them with will be a purely cosmetic choice. Or perhaps they'll decide for themselves. Either way, equipping armor on your teammates in order to maximize their efficiency is out. I'm fine with this.

We may not even visit hostile environments. Has anyone seen a screenie of Shep & co on an ice planet or a volcanic world?

Furthermore, Casey hinted that the differences between squaddie outfits, ie. not armors, would be "aesthetic".

From looking at the various armor specs available to Shep, I see stuff like pluses to power cooldown and shield strength, even negotiotation. Nothing related to damage resistance.

So armor might no longer have any direct resistance properties, only the various bonuses to other stuff. It may be, that the "shield strength" and "health" are the only things that count in ME2. Dumbing down the original system in favor of the standard generic FPS health regen / cover system.

EDIT

If that truly is Thane, then I guess we might be going to hostile worlds after all. Good news. Still doesn't excuse half the squad running around like bimbos in heels and wearing no armor, but it's better than the worst case scenario at least.

From what I've heard, the new squadies all vary greatly in their models, so it would be too difficult to make a ton of different armors for them all like in ME1. Such as, Miranda and SuZe aren't just the default human female (I think).

So, just alternate costumes, maybe some environmental suit stuff for when they enter the flotilla, as was noted above.

Edit: Well, not too difficult for BioWare, just more like a waste of time/energy/resources. I actually approve of this change. Not like that really matters, but I like my opinions at least.

So basically, not ONE person has given me any sort of concrete proof that you cannot equip your squadmates with armour. It's just as I suspected. This is a pure forum RUMOUR, taken from what a dev said about cosmetic OUTFITS and NOT armour.

So unless someone can provide a LINK, or a Dev Quote? This is the new ME2 forums, where the hell is Javier or someone.

No. your squad mates will wear armor, but to differentiate it from Shepards armor, they are calling them outfits.

Jacob wears medium armor (or maybe light), but all armors that he can wear are his "outfits".
Grunt wears heavy armor, but all the armors that he can wear are his "outfits".

You can customize Shepards "armor", but you can't customize your squad-mates "outfits" only select the best one that fits them for your tastes.

Guest-68: are squad member outfits merely alternative appearances or do they incorporate stat differences and/or research upgrades?

CaseyH-ME2: We found that the main attraction to customizing appearance was on your own character, and managing armor etc on all 10 squad members would be onerous. So we deepened the customizability of Shepard's armor so now you can do it piece by piece, and we made the appearance of your squadmembers more of an aesthetic choice that you earn by gaining their loyalty.

Matt.. Marlina anticipated me and gave you the proof you needed!

Even I at the beginning had your feelings.. it tasted bad for me.. but then, this might be yet something different, even nicer somehow.. but before to make final conclusions, I'll have to wait to try the game when it'll be shipped to my home :)

Yes LuPoM I agree entirely. I think approaching ME2 with a "fresh" standpoint will do us all the world of good. It will surely dampen changes that may possibly disappoint.

My question would be if it is possible to customize your party members' armor?

This really needs to be clarified, because I think far too many people jump to conclusion:
Having the NPC wear "outfits" does NOT mean they don't wear armor.
You see, "outfits" simply means a set of whatever it is they wear. Most will likely be wearing armour, and I imagine the different outfits will have different effects (so for example, Grunt's unlocked outfit will likely make him a better tank, and will likely actually be a better armour). Some NPCs might not be wearing armour (Subject Zero), and will have low protection (in SuZe's case, I imagine most of her protection comes from her biotics).
So, to recap: instead of being able to specifically choose which armour they were, that choice has basically already been made by the NPC. You do get to get them a better "outfit" (which will include some armours, depending on the NPC) later on, thereby upgrading their defenses.
In short, this is like how in ME1, the NPCs would revert to their "default" outfits in cutscenes, and odds are part of the reason for the "outfits" system is the reason they had to give NPCs these default armours in ME1.
And finally, I have no idea how this can be seriously considered as a possibility, but NPCs will be wearing protection in hazardous environments. The devs thought of that eventuality in ME1 (having NPCs automatically wear helmets when they couldn't breathe), I'm sure they didn't forget about it in ME2.

In footage seen so far we seen this to still be true, at least for Shep.

On the Flotilla and on SR1 he has full mask on, much like in any ME1 situation you couldn't breathe freely in.

I suspect that your squad mates will have a sealed suit for areas that take them into hostile places and will have the upgradable (this has been confirmed. I don't have a link) outfits for normal fights and on the ship.

Argh for the final time, there will be NO teammates armor customization, Casey has said more then once that they are purelly aesthetical! No stats, NO upgrades!!! The alternate suits are also just for show as reward as winning that Team mate loyalty.

When I say upgradable I mean in stats not in appearance. Casey confirmed this in an interview. I may need Javier's help for proof. You are right though alternate outfits are also awarded at points ion the game.

Yes Team mates will be Skill upgradable, and even have a special skills and a unique weapons that they can weild throught research in the Lab throught Mordin, the "outfits" themselfs WILL NOT OFFER stats or upgradable options, they are just clothes. (i highlighted for those that continue to pursuit their own visions and dont read info before posting and saying rubbish).

We'll have to wait for Javier to settle this. Unfortunately I believe you are wrong, I only trust Javier anyway. Nothing against you. I don't even trust myself to be honest. I'm pretty sure Casey confirmed that the upgrades you give your armour are also carried across to your team (even tho it appears that they don't all wear armour). Anyway if you have a link showing otherwise, I'm not insolent, i will of course see reason.

Edit: punctuation

Good grief. The Bioware Mass Effect boards: where the fanboys have fanboys.
