I just recently purchased the game over at TG when they had a huge sale. Here's my gamer profile:

This is my skill tree: and equipment:

Right now I'm mostly paying as a Vorcha Engineer

What should I be doing? How should be equipment be laid out? Skills? I can't seem to get a score of over 20k, playing Silver matches, random map/enemy.

yes

Op you should use the juggernaut, krogan vanguard, ghost, aui, or the destroyer.

Then use a shotgun.

Mostly the problem is lack of experience, but the Adas isn't so great. Maybe try that Carnifex or the Phaeston.

Vorcha Engineer isn't all that great unless you're using incendiary ammo, but you have incinerate specced right so that's good.

Just having a quick look at your manifest it seems you are mainly playing on silver. You will get credits faster but seem to be relying on your teammates to carry you. Personally, I think you should become more proficient on Bronze first but others will disagree.

You have just started and you are giving up an advantage in terms of both knowledge and quality of equipment to other players. Just go through the process of learning the game, be patient and your score will improve.

To score highly you need to learn where enemies spawn and how to play aggressively, but playing like that you will likely go down a lot when just starting out, which will annoy your teammates.

Vorcha Engineer is pretty cool, but to score highly is quite dependent on incendiary ammo and decent weapons. Right now human adept, sentinel or krogan warlord would be your best bet for scoring highly.

Combos

most powers in this game can set up, detonate or both

for your vorcha engineer
sub net can set up for tech bursts when enemies are being affected by it
incinerate can detonate tech, fire and cryo explosions

se if you trap an enemy in the net then hit them with incinerate it will do extra aoe damage, because it has a tech primer it will do double damage to shields(blue bar)

To make the combo better spec into the two powers being used, the selections you make don't matter as long as you put points into the power,(unless the evolution specifically has an effect, but beware, some non-biotic detonation evos are bugged and don't work)

also note powers that both prime and detonate cannot self detonate

Whoops, I severely underestimated my score. It's near 40k, but still not good. I'll check out Human Adept (Male) and see how it goes.

OP -- you're so new to the game that I wouldn't worry about low scores on silver -- so long as the team's extracting and you're getting credits and XP (& you're not getting kicked!) Your Salarian Infiltrator might be useful: you only need 4 ranks on tactical cloak, proximity mines are useful for lower level enemies so max that, along with energy drain. Your Indra might be used here. Things to remember with snipers:
-- cloak and then shoot (either the mine, the gun, or energy drain) -- gives a boost to damage
-- with Indra, there's a hip-fire penalty so quick scope (put reticule on the enemy then zoom in and shoot).

But, the beginning is the time to try all the different characters, even if you do this in bronze. I'd say branch out, get XP and credits and soon you'll be doing ok.

Have you finished the single player campaign already? If not, do it. It's a good introduction to basic game mechanics.

Mechanics are so different (cf. the stop-action feature of SP).  I finished ME2 & ME3 multiplayer and main thing I learned:  warp/ininerate's for armor and overload/energy drain's for shields/barriers!

Yeah, I've finished the Single Player already, not new to the ME universe (imported ME2 save). Multiplayer's just a bit different.

1. You're playing as Vorcha Engineer
2. What difficulty are you playing?
3. You're using the Anti-Synthetic Rifle. That gun is bad.
4. Try this build instead.

As others have said, the Vorcha Engineer is a class who's damage is almost entirely dependent on the weapons it fields, and new players don't have very good weapons most of the time. If you're a good shooter, your best bet would be a Turian Soldier with either the Saber or Eagle. If you prefer to deal damage with biotic combos the base human adepts/sentinels are good for that.

I wouldn't worry about scores since you just got the game. Also, Vorcha Engy is the most underrated character in the game. He fits well with other engys but can hold his own when he needs to. He also is one of the tankiest engys in the game due to the health regen from bloodlust. Also my recommended loadout combos with him is from the look of your manifest, indra/acolyte, acolyte/collector rifle, Carnifex, Eagle, Vindicator/acolyte, Mattock. You got a lot of decent weapons at level I at least and you managed to score a saber and an indra too. Nice. Also, if you do plan on taking a pistol along, put that pistol power magnifier to good use as it'll enhance the damage of your tech powers. Since you said you're using the adas, it's a decent stun weapon but there are better ones that you will obtain later. Spend a few matches in bronze to get used to the mechanics, spawn locations for enemies and objectives. My optimal loadout with the Vorcha Engy involves URs that you don't have yet but what you have right now should hold you over until you get the good stuff. Have fun op.

That's if you want to scrub with cheese Image IPB.

OP, the vorcha engineer is a perfectly good character kit. Personally I love the graal spike thrower on it.

But, to be honest; you really shouldn't be worrying about scores. The time you worry about the scoreboard is the sign that things are going downhill (take it from someone who knows!) This game is team-based and meant to be fun (touch wood!).

The more serious and competitive you get; the more the game will decline for you. Don't worry about what other people are doing compared to you; just do what feels right for you and, most importantly; have fun. Image IPB

you know that you can create a Tech Burst combo by simply following this step

Submission Net (ALWAYS DO THIS FIRST) and then incinerate

repeate and rinse

Vorcha are skilled with assault rifle and shotgun but i don't recommend you using Adas OFF HOST because there is delay on projectile type weapon

Another Projectile type weapon that should not be played off host unless the host is very good or you are skilled:
Geth Plasma Shotgun
Acolyte
Graal Spike Thrower
Kishock harpoon Gun

add my name on ORigin, we will play together sometimes on silver

Thanks for the suggestions and tips guys. Really appreciate it.

One last question: What packs should I buy? Right now I'm looking for weapons so I'm just purchasing Arsenal packs, with a few Premium Spectre packs.

For general MP gameplay, have a look at some vids on YT - caneghis2500, N7specops (InvaderOne), CaptStach_3, and many others - to see some really good gameplay - particularly the "instructional" videos.
As for purchases, I'd go with veteran packs and spectre packs - a bit less expensive than PSPs and Arsenal Packs, and will help you get your common and uncommon weapons and gear up, while building up your inventory of consumables. I suggest - with all due respect to contrary opinions - that learning to play with less powerful weapons will enhance your gameplay skills.

Few kits can dominate the score board with very weak manifest.
Fury, Geth Juggernaut, Drell Assassin.. etc..

Being only 2 weeks into playing the multiplayer I can say that you should take the time to get the handle of your characters in Bronze before jumping the gun to silver. I do hope you improve, cause even I'm still getting knocked out in silver after learning to aggressively play, take it easy, play with friends so you don't get kicked or hate for inexperience and you'll be getting better scores in no time.
