Is it at all possible to make your own tier using and existing colour, I want to make gold weapons and armour but using the 'gold' material type doesn't give the weapons and armour any stats.

Any help would be very much appreciated, thanks.

I believe that you can create a new tier using gda files. Unfortunately, you will have to use the toolset wiki and do the research because it is not something that I've ever done.

The GDAs you'll want to look at are materialrules and materialtypes, the former for the tiers and the latter for the tints. If you want a gold tint, you can use the existing "crown" material (only used for Cailan's armour in the vanilla game). The "gold" material is depreciated and has no associated tint file - they just left the entry in the GDA. Check out <install dir>\\tools\\Source\\2DA\\rules\\materialtypes.xls

I've found materialtypes but I can't find materialrules and how - once found - do I then use those to create a new tier.

Forget the fist part, they're both in the same document, do I just add another line to make a new tier (it's opened in Open Office as a speadsheet).

You might want to refer to this wiki page that covers the basics of extending and compiling GDAs - http://social.biowar...g_GDAs_tutorial

Is there any tutorials that show exactly how to make a new tier, the tutorial you posted just shows how to make a new armour model and I'm not skilled enough to take that information and use it to make a new tier.

Also, I would be satisfied with just making a new armour model as the tutorial shows as all I want is high level armour without looking like dragonbone, but even in this tutorial they have left out big bits of information, namely where exactly you get the models and textures from in the first place.
