Fan creations, right? Anyway here goes...

Thought I'd share the few Mass Effect things I've made over the last year or so. Figured you all might enjoy them, or give you ideas for your own. So, in chronological order, here goes;

Summer 2012:
The HWMP (spectre level pistol from ME1): This is a modified NERF Maverick. The cutouts have roughened plastic over them to diffuse the light from the two colors of LED inside. Following the ME1 color scheme, blue is active / unlocked, and red is locked. The color change is achieved via a reed switch and a magnet in the holster. Similarly, there are three magnets in the gun, and matching magnets in the (cardboard :( ) holster, so it just latches into the holster similarly to how it does in-game :D. Later I switched the wiring so its blue is when it's in the holster and red is active (it's way more intimidating that way :devil:).

Fall 2012:
What other choice did I have for halloween but Shepard? After a quick trip to the second-hand store and a little bit of crafting I had a passable dress outfit. (Yeah, I'm not really equipped or cut out for (har, har) cosplay.) The omni-tool took a bit longer, and is made of a dozen-and-a-half orange LED's powered by a 9V. By-the-way; cutting plastic with a jig-saw is something I will never do again :crying: - there HAS to be a better way :huh:. Also we cut pumpkins. Mine is the citadel and the Normandy, since you probably can't tell. And yes, I do look that handsome :DImage IPBImage IPB

December 2012/January 2013:
So I saw XenonRay's excellent papercrafts and decided that I must make Garrus for a friend who is absolutely in love with Turians. I've never done papercraft before, but hey how hard could it be^_^? It was only after I started that I noticed he had given it a difficulty of 9.8/10 :pinched:. But I had to have it done for Christmas, so I perservered and over the course of 4 monts or so; making only a few mistakes (only the right foot had to have it's toes amutated and re-attached :whistle:); I finished it in time to give to him. Unfortunately, transit damaged him somewhat (he took a rocket to the chest-plate while in my luggage) but he came through in one piece. With the tough one done, I thought I should have some record of my skills and make a Tali for myself :blush:. Thankfully she had a dificutly of only 6/10, and only took a few weeks with my now-refined papercraft skillz B).

April 2013:
Spring was approaching, and I was oogling Joker's hat from the Bioware store. But the lack of adjustibility in the back was a drawback, and I really much preferred the design from the Cerberus SR2 (not that I support them, they just have a good designer :innocent:). Yet, I couldn't find any place that had them / would sell (a physical) one to me (there was one for x-box avatars, wtf?). So I (again) had to make one on my own. A custom-embroidered cap was the same price as the one from the BW store, so I got the SR2 on the white cap. A ton of sharpie + india ink later, I had the black lines sketched in. Not perfect, but good enough for me. (It's been awhile so the ink needs a bit of a refresher in this pic).Image IPB

May 2013:

Bioware was having a sale on the action figures + I had been oggling Mording for awhile + I had some spare cash = one happy Mordin action figure owner :lol:. Actually not that happy because the build quality was pretty low - my Mordin's arms fall off at every opportunity :(. But it's alright because I have a hot-glue gun ;). Anyway a bit of hot-glue, some spare cardboard, spraypaint, plastic from the omni-tool, and leftover LED's later... I had myself a sweet Mordin computer-terminal. Complete with seashells :happy:. The terminal has some poor detailing from me trying to give it a DNA-esque look with a dremel. (Hey, it was my first time with the engraiver tool. Also, remember what I said about that plastic? Yeah, that.) And yes, that is a Physics Today he's standing on, this is Mordin after all.

So those are my crafty Mass Effect adventures, I hope you enjoyed the story. I certainly had a ton of fun making them. I'd love to see anyone else's (I'm sure they're at least as good as, if not better than, what I have here). If you have any questions about how I made anything or want some tips for making one of your own, let me know. Thanks everyone! :wizard:

Clever use of the magnets and the wiring! Jeeze, if I'd have known that was possible I would have hollowed out my Hurricane or something and attempted it. Maybe for MK2 or something.
What sort of magnets are you using? I need a way to strap mine to me as well.

Nice man. I'm not one for doing this kind of stuff usually (to my great sadness). But I've been in need of a project and figured why not give being creative a shot, so maybe I'll do something ME related too!

Glad you liked the idea. I used 3 sets of small disk magnets. They were just barely enough to hold it to the holder though. I'll probably re-design the holster with some hard-drive magnets instead. They're much stronger and are just as easy to find.

Particularly digging the Mordin diorama there.
