So is there any way the new consoles will be able to support more than 4 player coop?

Maybe we could finally have real deal boss fights at the end of games... Like a Reaper, mega-Pratorian, Thresher Maw, Geth Colossus, Atlas the size of Voltron, etc.

It could be like Defiance or Lost Planet... But Mass Effect. We can all dream right?

Thresher Maw against an all Krogan team...where do I send the check?

Hell yeah...it'd be great if they had epic "event" bosses instead of generic weekend missions, with appropriate rewards as well.  Ie, a customized graal with built in melee bonus if you are on the team that beat the thresher maw, plus a unique "ceremonially blood smeared" armor for the krogan player that delivers the killing blow.

Wouldn't mind this if we could choose how many players we actually want in a match. I don't want to have to wait for a party of 8. Window shopping and kicking scrubs with 4 takes too much time as is.

I think BioWare announcing ME4 being on the Frostbite engine all but confirms a much larger multi player experience.

ME3 was made in Unreal, which has supported numerous large multiplayer games in the past.  Player count isn't correlated with engine type the way you think it is.

Or imagine having thriving friends list where getting 8 people together would take mear minutes. It is nice to not be anti-social... and with the friends list being expanded to 1000... It should be even easier.

I get what you're saying, however, and I like it. Having 8+ friends in a game would be all kinds of incredible fun. Pugging with a large group of bronze scrubs insisting on gold for the credits, would not.

I know there's a good chance there'll be an overhaul on the way things work for the next multiplayer, but speculation dictates that more players brings more to the game. "More" being both the good and the bad.

There have been several occasions where a friend has been left out because of the current lobby limitations. Having at least 6 slots would be optimal. But the more the merrier :P

Four is a good number, being in parties of up to 12 people on XBL has me convinced that party size greater than 8 (at a stretch) would just be a series of incoherent babbling with the occasional expletive discernible.

Still could be fun.

EDIT* any word on current games that will be available to download early in the next gen cycle? I'm looking for specifics not gaikai in general.:wizard:

^ No clue. I imagine the already existing F2Play titles they announced would be available for download relatively early (Planetside 2, Lameframe, DCUO, etc.). Perhaps launch window titles like Diablo 3 and some of the Indies (Octodad, etc.) will make it to digital, as well.

They haven't confirmed much (read: I didn't search hard), so that's all just speculation. Use your Google-fu.
