Legion and the V.I

I think there's a fair amount of interaction going to go on between these two. Since geth were intially V.I's who grew or 'evolved' beyond there original programming do you think it has a potential to influence the ship V.I ??
Thoughts ?

Though I dare to bet that EDI is an A.I.

"What are you doing, Shepard? Shepard, stop. Stop, Shepard. Stop. Shepard, would you like me to sing Daisy to you? Shepard, my mind is blowing." etc.

VI's cannot spontaneously gain sentience, special hardware and software is required for that. The geth were not intended to become sentient but they did anyway because of certain hardware and software capabilities, specifically the ones that allowed them to use eachother for processing power.BeardedNinja wrote...
It would certainly be interesting, but I'm sure VI's have a failsafe before gaining sentience.
Unless other VI's are designed with something similar, they will not be able to become AI's.

The Geths weren't V.I.. They were labor robots who evolved. Tali even say the start of the issue was when a Geth question it owner over why it was created.
They were originally V.I's as the Quarians tinkered with them they developed into a form of collective A.I to me it looks like legion has made the next logical leap and evolved to either true A.I or managed to stay connectecd to the Geth collective over greater distances.
From the mass effect wiki
The quarians created the geth as a cheap labor force, limiting their intelligence to keep it as low as any VI. However, they made small modifications to their programming as time passed, enabling the geth to do more difficult tasks and work more efficiently. Due to the way the geth neural network functions, the more geth the quarians built, the smarter they became. Soon, the geth became intelligent enough that one questioned its master as to whether it was really alive, and what its purpose was.

it's possible Legion could do this no ? It's even possible that he could percieve it as a form of enslavement

EDI is AI, yes, you are right about that Moj and Haasth.
Really ? I haven't seen anything officiall confirming that also the Wiki does not classiy her as an A.I or a V.I
This argument seems to be a bone of contention in itself.

I'd love to see an official link to the info a Dev post maybe ?? If one indeed exists

I'm pretty sure it's been stated that EDI is an AI. And that she will be able to transfer herself to anther ship to wreak havoc upon their systems if you upgrade the ship in a certain way. I don't recall where I read this, anyone else know what I'm talking about, Javier?
Well the guys who contribute to the wiki haven't heard anything as of yet....... You could have found this in 5 mins instead of asking mr begazo
So it seems that speculation about her A.I/ V.I status is moot. read on....
Anyone else notice, that EDI doesn't sound anything like VI. Anyone else think it's AI, or at least something damn near that. --LiudvikasT 10:44, December 25, 2009 (UTC)
Not really, as no indication of the sort has yet been given. And as for something "damn near" an AI, isn't that called a VI?
Cerberus would be exactly the kind of organization to experiment with illegal AI research... but yeah, we won't know until the game comes out.--Matt 2108 18:21, December 25, 2009 (UTC)
Well it's subtle differences in her speech, she says something like "I trust him to keep me operational, he trusts me to keep him alive", if you ask me its a sign of self preservation, thats something VI wouldn't show. --LiudvikasT 19:19, December 25, 2009 (UTC)
That is true, although it does bear remembering that VIs can also appear self-aware, as the entry on VIs cautions that "Though they appear to be intelligent, they aren't actually self aware: it's just clever programming." So yes, signs of apparent self-awareness are something a VI would show IF programmed to. Regardless, there is no actual proof yet that EDI is an AI, so we'll just have to wait and see for now. SpartHawg948 20:49, December 25, 2009 (UTC)
Well I haven't seen VI in Mass effect 1, with such signs of apparent self-awareness. I hope EDI is AI, that would make a nice story.--LiudvikasT 21:23, December 25, 2009 (UTC)
Plus after Tricias role in BSG I could hardly think of her as something else than real self aware AI. --LiudvikasT 21:26, December 25, 2009 (UTC)

I'm not saying she isn't an A.I but in terms of story it would be great to have her modified or 'educated' by legion into full blown A.I status. Another ethical dilemma to contend with.

Tricia Helfer would be a pretty high-profile (and therefore expensive) actress to get for a bit part... Which leads me to believe the ship V.I. will be a relatively major character.
Mye she played Killian in Command and Conquer 3, that wasn't a really big role either. I doubt EDI role will be anything out of the ordinary, as for as a spaceships V.I. isn't out of the ordinary already

Because A.I. development and implementation is, as far as I know in the ME universe, highly, highly illegal. Like "get your planet glassed" illegal.
