Hi,

Nothing like a flamming title to attract attention ;) .
Anyway, I'm not really happy with the Shapeshifter specialization, as I find rather useless as it is. So I was thinking that keeping the original spellbar of the character would be a nice beginning. So technically the goal would be to add a spellbar on top of the current one with the talents relative to the shape. The shapeshifter could then use regular spells (like healing, freezing blade, etc...) on top of the others.

Has someone already worked on that? Is that even possible? Where would be a good place to start (given that I'm a complete noob but with a determination looming toward obstination)?

Thanks

It is possible to change the appearance of the player without messing with their toolbar or locking everything out. Using the SetAppearanceType function instead of the polymorph effect. This only changes what you look like instead of doing all the things polymorph does like locks the toolbar, locks inventory, locks spells and talents.

I do plan on reworking the shifter spec soon for the PRC. Check out my sig for the design doc. I have decided to go with the polymorph effect, because of balance/fun issues. In D&D with the shifter class and natural spell the druid would just stay in the best combat form and have all their spells. Thats what I found happened when I redid the shifter for NWN1 and NWN2. Once you could shift into a golem there was no point shifting into anything else or even staying human. So even though using high fatigue I could balance the shifter, I didnt want another tank/mage form since we already have the arcane warrior. I loved how they did the shifting in the fade in which each form has a role and its up to the user to figure out the best role for the situation.

Thanks for taking the time to answer. Yeah, it sounds interesting, I'll be sure to check your progress out.

The fade comparison was nice, since that's pretty much something I would aim at, with different forms having different skills (one tank, one ranged attack and maybe something for lockpicking, just to keep Leliana/Zevran out for a change).

Then I'll think about other shapes than wolf, bear and/or spider (I've seen some mods around for that....).
