Great thread!
Your mother refusing to leave your dying father in human noble origin.
Duncan killing Jory, it was "wow these people are serious."
"Sound... the retreat."
Meeing Alistair's sister, there was no happy resolution to that situation no matter what you did.
Hespith's song in deep roads. Creepy.
Riordan telling you one of you must die to kill the arch demon and I just knew that wasn't going to be him.
First time through was a female human noble in love with Alistair, so hearing about the DR and thinking "How in the Maker's name am I going to convince him to do this?!?!"

Well for me it's...

hideous makeup as it immediately made me realize that she's insane.
Then there's Isabela visiting Anders to magic away her STD.

Ostagar battle, especially when Cailan and Duncan die, and Duncan looks at burning beacon. Hope answered with nothing indeed. (I loved that Aveline's reference.) Second reaction: what, this awesome guy died, and I'm stuck with that clown? No ...
Hespith and Broodmother.
Dark ritual, hardest choice.
City elf and noble dwarf origins.
All that remains.
I didn't expect Anders' thing, so it was a shock. Then I thought, maybe better to destroy this infernal city altogether, and never ever rebuild it. This place is cursed.
Meredith, no... Why they always kill my favorite NPC? Gah.

"Sound... the retreat."
There were more after that but before most of the moments were more like "wait a minute, it CAN be solved peacefully! Just let me say what I want to say!" (which never happend, of course).

Duncan's death and Loghain's betrayal. It's probably the most memorable moment in the whole dragon age series.

Good stuff!
The bridge scene from the "Return to Ostagar" dlc is one of my favorite:
www.youtube.com/watch?v=1po4NQpXiuQ
The camp theme is touched up beautifully during the flashbacks. When the baddies showed up, I went full 'storm of the century' on them.

The Ogre at the top of the Tower of Ishal ... oh boy. I should note I was not much familiar with the concept of kiting, so you can imagine how my first attempts turned out.
Other than that, after mastering the gameplay, the noteworthy challenging fights were for one that one Revenant in the Circle Tower (oooowie did that one catch me pants down!) and against Ser Lauthrien and her troops when rescuing the Queen ****, boy was that a good fight, but I won on first attempt ... only found out later that my victory depraved me of one of the most fun mini-quests in the game.
Interestingly, I found Gaxkang to be a pushover, though by the time I got there I already had my final party all set up and the individual tactic commands tweaked to oblivion and beyond, so go figure.
The DLCs were largely easy all around. Awakening Broodmother fight was tedious, but not really challenging. But it did have a nice feel of completion I admit.
DAII was the fight against the High Dragon ... that one chewed me up good a couple times (pun intended).

I found that the opposite of a "just got real" moment. It was so extreme and imposed that it broke me out and made me look at the structure.Zazzerka wrote...

1) In the Dwarven Noble origin, when I sussed out that I had been stitched up by Behlen. And then being thrown out with the clothes I stood up in. I decided he was a dead dwarf walking. And so he was.
2) After lighting the fire at the top of the Tower of Ishal, when the scren blanked out. The first playthrough I remember thinking "You don't get much of a game for your money these days!", before the next scene started.

Both the Dwarven and the Mage Origins are brilliant pieces. Especially because they aren't the usual fantasy stereotypes, they actually motivate the player with a mission. Dalish Origin doesn't give that motivation and City Elf and Human Noble are so stereotypical it hurts.
Also, I love the Dwarfs in DA. They are awesome to a "t".

For me it was when, on my first play through in DA2 (pro templar), I faced Orsino as the end boss. I was like yeah, I knew that m'fer was hiding something. Even more so when he revealed that he knew Leandra's killer and did nothing to stop him. Felt sooo good killing him. Then I let Meredith kill Bethany. Then I was floored by Meredith's betrayal/reveal.
Also the first time when facing the Arishok at the end of Act 2. WEll that first battle when you get into the Viscount's Keep. Then that second battle when you are surrounded by....everything PLUS the Arishok when you choose not to hand Isabela over to him and choose not to duel him.

Having Fenris with you when you first meet the Arishok in DA2. LOL at 1:28 when things got very real for the dwarf.

Hespith's tale & the following meeting with the Broodmother.
The end of the Human noble Origin.
Killing Howe as a Human noble, so satisfying
When Mouse reveals his true nature to the Mage Warden, I didn't figure it out until the option was thrown in my face :\\

Which one?
The bridge during the Battle of Ostagar, the bridge leading to the Royal Palace during the Battle for Denerim or any other generic bridge?

The bridge in the endgame. You've passed the point of no return and have to live with the consequences. It's really epic in my book.

My troops around me, egging me on. My own insecurities, holding me back. I'm crossing a bridge, presumably burning it behind me. What isn't epic?

That scene in the Deep Roads where you walk through the halls and listen to that creepy, CREEPY rhyme.
First time Darkspawn actually seemed like the threat they always told me they are.
"First day, they come and catch everyone."
"Second day, they beat us and eat some for meat."
"Third day, the men are all gnawed on again."
"Fourth day, we wait and fear for our fate."
"Fifth day, they return and it's another girl's turn."
"Sixth day, her screams we hear in our dreams."
"Seventh day, she grew as in her mouth they spew."
"Eighth day, we hate it as she is violated."
"Ninth day, she grins and devours her kin."
"Now she does feast, as she's become the beast."
"Now you lay and wait, for their screams will haunt you in your dreams."

This entire quest gave me the chills. I walked out of the room going: NOPE NOPE NOPE NOPE NOPE
And having to convince everyone in the Landsmeet - a game has never put me under so much pressure. XD
As for DA2: most definitely when Leandra Hawke became a zombie. That was...horrifying.
