Maybe males are a little more shallow when it comes to the looks of LIs. I mean would you go for a turian female LI for your human male?

Seems like they would chafe.

Uhhh, you guys are missing the point. No matter how pretty the concept art is, it's still just concept art. It's not necessarily something that could be implemented. I did like how they incorporated the idea of the "lotus" motif into the ending area. Highly atmospheric.

Sure, but in the case of Tali, they didn't even try.

It reminds me of something I myself did back in highschool art class. I slacked off for a whole semester for a sculpture project, and at the last minute, I jokingly made a dracula head. I fully admit being a fool who didn't try.. I know I could do better. Bioware acts like they're proud of their work on Tali though (some do at least).

Eh, Bioware took a safe route.  Remember, she wasn't an LI in ME1 despite he fact she was originally meant to be because they were worried she would be TOO alien.  The same thing happened in ME3.  Bioware chose a stock image because they were worried about how far they could push the "alien-ness".

Yes, hindsight is perfect (The fans have stated they'd have been okay with her being more alien), but it's understandable they went with something more human.

Yet females are perfectly ok with Garrus.

Maybe males are a little more shallow when it comes to the looks of LIs. I mean would you go for a turian female LI for your human male?

Both genders of Turian look physically repulsive to me. It's even more icky with a male turian, like what woman in her right mind would want her pelvis broken by a literal boner?

It's impractical, you have to admit. With Asari, it makes sense that they mate with anyone. They don't even need to have actual sex.

Garrus was sweet and all that but... a bit too spiky.

I assume this is supposed to be a control ending Shepard sitting on a throne, and it looks bad ass. (edit: that is what the link says, and I would have loved to see this)

But wouldn't that get boring after a while? Wouldn't you want to play with your toys?

I would just have someone get my model ships from the Normandy, and have pretend space battles all the while making reaperized spaceship noises and pew pew pew.  Or something.

Some things I want to point out:

Image IPB

This "Throne" image is a depiction of Control. So, you sit on a throne, and you become the ruler of the Reapers. How unrealistic is that? Well, I take this image as more evidence that Shepard's final actions are symbolic, and not literal. So many people are upset that Shepard just shoots a tube, or grabs some handles, or jumps into a beam. I don't think the actions are supposed to be taken literally.

Image IPB

And this quote about Synthesis:

"I imagined the galaxy changed by the synthesis choice. Because life and technology were joined (and I didn’t know the Mass Relays would be destroyed yet) I imagined that there would be no more need for space ships. Any creature could just link in with the nearest relay and jump to any world they chose, surface to surface. This would start changing the biology of every creature in the galaxy as they would no longer be limited to any one environment."

Once again, a postive interpretation of Synthesis. A happy ending that emerges from the union of organics and technology.

That infant human reaper has a nice touch of creepy to it. Prefer it to the T-800 Terminator we got instead; I can't take that thing seriously.

Seeing the concept art for Tali's face make me glad that they didn't use it.

The concept was before Mass Effect 1 and before you had hordes of fans clamoring her to be a LI. The Tali concept is more alien because it was designed without a romance with Shepard in mind.

Romance or not, that face doesn't belong in ME universe.

Can you explain? Not seeing why not. What's so different about it from krogan faces, asari faces, turian, or even thorian..? There's room for anything it seems.

It's all about the uncanny valleys. To illustrate, here's three different individuals and how most people view them:

Duckling = cute (left peak of the valley)

Normal woman = attractive (right peak of the valley)

Duck-woman = nightmare fuel (trough of the valley)

Turians and Krogan fall into the "duck" pile because they look so radically different from people (Turians have a sort of feline appearance and Krogan look like big fat turtles). Asari and Quarians are in the area between the two peaks (where they each are, your mileage may vary) but the general consensus is that they sit far enough from the trough of the valley to where they're both aesthetically appealing.

Chalk-white bald-as-a-cucumber alien lady is way closer to that trough, to where plenty of people find that just plain creepy.

Unrelated note, I think it's strange how many fans believed that Tali had to be bald and/or purple. Why, because she wears a helmet with a purple visor? They never said Quarians were bald, and on a planet where the megafauna does the pollinating, giving them hairs for pollen/spores to cling to makes sense, ecologically.

Please, you're a God (capital G) now. The galaxy is your toy. if you get bored, all you have to do is summon a few Reapers, send them to Pallaven and start a real space battle.

Only males apparently, and even that is subjective. But can you explain why females like Garrus so much? Is it just the stereotype that males go more for look and females more for personality? Remember that Tali didnt even have face before she was wanted for LI.

I find it funny that a bipedal space alien dragon bird can become favorite love intrest for females, but for males it has to be something thats very human looking. We already had a species for that, the asari. Do we really need another alien babe race for shallow males instead of something a little more exotic? Or maybe the devs just played it safe and went for the lowest common denominator: Space elf.

The fact that we didnt see any alien females apart from asari who pretty much presented all fem xenos in the first two games is also a thing i dont like. Devs confimed this by pretty much by saying facepalm worthy kid visions"we dont know how to draw them. Should we add breasts or lipstick", which made it sound more like "if we cant make it sexy for human males, dont show it." Im sorry but you can make females who dont have to be super sex bombs, cant you? You dont have to stoop to Team Ninja levels in making females, just showing us big breasts and rear ends. Well at least in the third game they finally showed us some other female aliens...

Reaper-augmented Shepard being hounded by Ashley and the Council sounds a lot more interesting than what we actually got in ME1.

How would you all have preferred the Catalyst to look like this instead? To me, THAT looks like something that can command the Reapers... "So be it."

I could actually take him seriously.

Well, somewhat so. His premise alone is retarded, and no matter how menacing he may look, there's no avoiding that.

Thats pretty much how she looks, only with dark hair and milky white eyes. I dont like it, its way too human, they already stretched my suspension of disbelief with the asari. Why is there another race like that?

"universe loves diversity" except in the case of female alien love intrests...

The thing with that Tali is that look fits the personality I feel. Tali has this cute, young minded innocence, always commenting about her cute boyfriend... That version ^ fits.

I didn't think I had anymore annoyance to give to ME3. But Tali's concept art. I mean, I know concept is the key word here. But they went with a bad internet photoshop job instead? My mind boggles.

The vs plot idea is what I've always wanted to see in a RPG. But I regret looking at this now, because I'm now thinking it could have been a lot better than Shepard being a bit of an underdog. I'm sure Bioware went with what they thought was best, but I can't help but feel a bit annoyed and disappointed after looking at the art styles and how they could have made ME3 better than how it turned out. A bit tragic for a great series.

I really like this one, kind of like Shepard (and therefore Humanity) is being judged by the Reapers, sort of acting like a psycological pressure onto the decision that needed to be made.

This is really cool of them to release so many concept art images, thanks a lot!!

Sadly it's no secret they had to rewrite a lot of the story after the leak. If you have the time and patience to suffer the pain of seeing what could've been I reccomend this:

http://www.holdtheli...-were-cut.2073/

Cut content from all 3 games. Mass Effect 3 was supposed to be very different.

The form of a child did take away some of seriousness of. The form of the blue guy from Watchman and speaking in the same manner would have turned out a lor differently.

I don't know, it doesn't say "Tali" to me. The concept art version isn't perfect but it fits better and looks a bit less human. Don't mind some hair (IIRC the codex says quarians have something similar anyway) but it seems likely that it would be kept short.
