No. If the Catalyst even remotely resembled Dr. Manhattan, I would burn a building down.

Seeing the concept art for Tali's face make me glad that they didn't use it.

The concept was before Mass Effect 1 and before you had hordes of fans clamoring her to be a LI. The Tali concept is more alien because it was designed without a romance with Shepard in mind.

Romance or not, that face doesn't belong in ME universe.

Can you explain? Not seeing why not. What's so different about it from krogan faces, asari faces, turian, or even thorian..? There's room for anything it seems.

I looked upon the relationship with Tali as being more about personality rather than looks like the romance with Garrus. It still is because Tali's face is so minor but had a massive impact outside the game. I'd prefer to keep Tali's appearence up for player imagination or atleast a not so much a human resemblance.

Would any form the Catalyst would take want to make you burn down a building?

That kills the player - character connection since Shepard knows what she looks like if he's romanced her. Keep it up for imagination only if Shepard had never seen her face.

Honestly I never cared about Tali's face that much. Her helmet has this kind of mystery that makes her very special. I don't care if she's a cat-like creature with white skin or a space-human-elf, what matters is her personality. I also wonder what the difference would be if she'd look "ugly" or "creepy"?! I wouldn't care at all. That's why so many people want to see her face, they're probably insecure and slightly superficial.

Bioware is nearly incapable of designing women that aren't super model beautiful. Frankly, we are lucky krogan and salarians didn't have huge boobs and large asses to try and seduce the male playerbase with. And I'm still shocked they showed restraint with the female turians and didn't slap lipstick and boobs on them.

Sex appeal is not needed in all areas of Mass Effect. It seems physically appealing people get the spotlight more so than people aren't considered attractive, despite it being fiction.

I shudder to think what Bastila would look like if she were designed today.

The idea of Shepard becoming a variation of Saren is extremely intriguing to me. Under immense pressure, you could easily justify the angle and that twist in the narrative would undoubtedly shock the audience. While it may be better left to your choices. I would be on board even if it was linear just because it's different and interesting.

Seriously, BioWare. Move this guy to the writing team. We might actually get something going.

Shepard could have resorted to using the Reapers for his own ends and would have come up against the new human spectre (the VS). Would have been like the Saren and Shepard showdown in the first Mass Effect.

That actually sounds really cool, would have been awsome for a true renegade shep, and it would bring more of a difference in the story for which path you choose other than renegade just making you and **** and paragon making you the sensitive cliche nice hero.

It could be interesting if the twist was based on some form of choice.

Well of course it would be, you would have to choose to take the renegade path. It would have to be a number of choices built up to the point where you're  shep decides to give into the reapers on his own based on what you're reputation is.

Not bad concept for edi, but given the backstory in game for the body, it doesn't quite work.

You mean besides how she looks now with her super tight outfit and ridiculously supermodel like face?

This, this is what a real alien love interest should look like. This is what quarians should have been, just shoved into super tightly molded envirosuits. Too bad bioware ahd to drop the ball, again.

Those versions of Tali are cool. I think they need to stick with their creatives/artists more often, and not try to necessarily please mainstream concerns (Oh noes.. she doesn't look human enough). Not that I think they're mainstream in some conscious way. Just that I suspect the leads have stopped becoming the oddball/geeks that they are. They spend too much time with corporate and Hollywood groups, focus groups, and go to parties with "cool people". Hang around crap like that and it rubs off on your mentality. Now their ideas amount to "lets just photoshop a getty image".

Anyways, I'm getting ahead of myself.

No... the problem is they HAVE to try and cater to "mainstream", "casual" gamers.  Pretty much ALL AAA developers do.  They have to sell millions of copies at $60 bucks a pop for the publisher to consider it a decent return on their investment.  You're not going to get that playing to a niche, no matter how important the "hardcore" fans think they are.

There was some good stuff on there.

The debate about whether or not to reveal Tali’s face was another one that lasted a long time. Versions of her were being worked on fairly often. These were three that I thought worked in their own way. Personally, I thought it would be the perfect opportunity to push players to the edge. Tali was like a pen pal, or a friend you’ve only ever known online. Depending on how attached to her a player was, how well could they handle her appearance challenging their expectations? If she looked a little too alien, just a little too repellant, would they still feel the same way about her? Or did her personality and your history together trump appearances? It’s an interesting area to explore and I hope we can find other ways to ask that question.

It would have been very interesting to see how people would have reacted if Tali had ended up like some of the more alien concept art.

The human-looking one also posted on Matt's site was very attractive but looked like a woman who had been painted at the county fair. We already have the Asari covering that niche.
