humanoid is such a tight form of genetics to even consider that we would see it again somewhere else in the universe is laughable

The problem is then coming up with something that is both alien and plausible. That's impossible to know since we haven't met any. The hanar are completely non-humanoid of course but then again the idea of such a species becoming technological doesn't really pan out (although they get around that a bit by having the Protheans interfere).

Another reason, of course, is that you don't need unique animations for everyone.
