On a scale of 1-10, how awesome would you say it would be if you could choose a race and class like Dragon Age Origins in Mass Effect 4?

If they were to do that, what is your first playthrough going to look like?  Mine would be some type of Turian techie.

I would not be surprised if they do this, if they go with the "Mass Effect: Noir" idea.

Salarian, of course. Need to break Omega's one rule. Vanity not withstanding.

A quarian (soldier/infiltrator/engineer) on his pilgrimage, exploring the galaxy for something to bring to the Migrant Fleet. And yes.

If they did that it would probably be an MMORPG honestly. That is the only money making incentive that would encourage such an extensive option. People asked for races with KoToR and look what they got...The old Republic.

I would love that just because some of my favorite moments in Mass Effect were just eavesdropping & conversations to be had. Like the Asari tagging along with her Salarian dad while he tries to find a present, and shes unhappy because she knows he's not going to be part of her life much longer. All that extra stuff was really great, and imagine just how crazy it would get when looking into Origins. With Mass Effect there'd probably be too much they could do to the point it might even be disappointing, because even if they include some origins odds are they'd not include someones favorite. Origins had the advantage of being a virgin world where we didn't have any preconceived ideas or attachments to its races and characters. lol, maybe it would work better with a pen & paper role playing game or with miniatures or something.

I love to play as a turian. Seeing as ME will be not featured the same protagonist, this would be a great opportunity for them to introduce non-human protagonist to the series.

A 1.

Choosing any species sounds good in theory, the problem is that it would automatically mean a protagonist that isn't voiced. Many of the Mass Effect species sound nothing alike, so you couldn't get away with just having one voice actor for the male and female versions of every species. I much prefer having a fully voiced protagonist even if comes at the cost of not being able to choose the player character's species. A fully voiced protagonist feels more involved in the plot and with the supporting characters, has more personality, and conversations are more natural.

The other problem with choosing any race is that it would just be cosmetic. With so many different options its unlikely the species choice would have any impact on gameplay, or that your background would get much mention.

*If* Bioware were to allow the player to choose an alien species for the protagonist, I'd rather they limited the options so that you could still have a fully voiced protagonist. For example the male protagonist would be a Turian, and the female protagonist would be an Asari. But beyond that, there wouldn't be other options.

Voiced protagonist? Who cares. Leave it to imagination, it's actually better this way.
A great idea. But I doubt the EA would spend resources on something like this.

I disagree that it 'is better that way.' Shepard is a much better protagonist than the Warden IMO, and ironically so is Hawke, despite DA2 being a worse game than DA:O.

Anything besides human would alienate new fans.

That being said, being able to choose your alien race would be a welcome addition.
