So what should the devs do for the weeks/months they are unable to work on anything? The industry normally just fires... err layoffs the excess staff, BioWare works on Day 1 DLC.  If some of the articles I have been reading are accurate when a game goes for certification to Microsoft and Sony (Nintendo too if its released on their consoles) its generally four to six weeks before the game goes gold, but they can't make any changes to it, otherwise it has to be certified again.

. Allright, so it takes 4-6 weeks till Sony and MS give their OK, then the game is released. So what you say is during that period they managed to finish a DLC which contained a fully voiced character with its own unique dialogue,  that had interactions whith pretty much any character on the team and even its own mission, and they managed to get the OK for that, too? I can't believe this. I could if were just some additional skins or a weapon pack, which would be sort of OK, but this was major content.

A publisher can market its title however he sees fit, if he wants to split the game up into peaces and sell each piece separately, he is entitled to do that and I am quite entitled to call this a ****ty business practice and milking of your customers.

Well, this video shows examples of work of individual people on Skyrim during 1 week.

For me it isn't hard to imagine how more can group of people do in 6 weeks.
