Quick question for all you BSN'ers, do you guys like playing with a novaguard in a PUG? It seem's everytime I play as my novaguard and host a match, people will join and then leave right away. Even when the game is in progress, if I'm destroying everything single-handedly then people tend to leave. I get that it's not as much fun when someone else is killing most of the enemies, but it's not like I can solo gold with my novaguard. (yet...)

I don't think I'm a bad  Vanguard. I don't charge into a massive group of enemies to get myself insta-killed, I play smart when I charge big guys with sync kills, I prioritize reviving my teammates, I gel and ops pack when it's needed, I'll missile a big group of enemies if needed, and I always help with objectives. I try  not to steal people's kills all the time, because even though it's a team based game it is annoying when someone kills everything you start shooting at.

So are novaguards the ultimate ME3 douchebag character or do I just smell bad? I'd like to hear your guys opinion on the subject.

No, I hate novguards and will often leave a match if one is in the group. They are simplyannoying characters, not necessarily the players fault, just the make up of the character, their constant rawrs and their penchant for being players that are all over the map and getting killed as often as being reasonably good.

Novaguards are the best teammates.

Falcon + incendiary ammo + nova guard = boom-booms everywhere

The best part is that a novaguard companion is easily replaced, sometimes mildly intelligent, and a player's best friend.

I understand completely, bad novaguards are epicly annoying. (I always hang my head in shame when I see a novaguard that ignores nova) The thing is, I'm not that bad of a novaguard! I don't die constantly, and if I do die because of a poorly thought out BC/nova, then I'll revive myself to not be a nuisance to the team. (No one want's to try and revive the guy that got downed in front of 2 turrets on the other side of the map)

I love my novaguard, he's my no.1 favorite character in the game. It makes me sad that no one want's to play with me <_<
Lol.

Edit:

I hope you and your Paladin BURN IN THE FIRES OF A THOUSAND SUNS! Ruining all my biotic boom boom's with your lame cryo splosions. ;)

Too few good or bad ones.

I find novaguards very entertaining.  They're better teammates than Slash spammers.  Besides, they're the O.G. (Original Guard).

Never done it. If I'm pugging, I ain't hosting, and then it becomes too easy to die. Great to solo with or play with a local group though.

never ever ever ever see them in gold pugs. rarely in silver. nova just doesnt do that much damage to make it worth playing. even with the fix to the charge problems....novaguards just cant cut the mustard.

Nothing wrong with the novaguard that couldn't be fixed by:
1/ making sure the novaguard is hosting.
2/ making sure the novaguard knows how to play.
3/ making sure you prime all the things for booms.
4/ deleting the novaguards power grunts, Ala reave-step deletion in previous patches.
If you follow 1.2.and 3, good times.
Shame about 4, wonder if pc players could do this via modding...

:o...... LOL. Nova is freaking AWESOME. Maxed out for damage, it obliterates shields/barriers/armor. Yes there are a lot of crappy novaguards out there, but about a week ago I played a gold reaper PUG and one of them was a novaguard, he absolutely destroyed everything in sight, without going down 4 times per wave. That guy inspired me to bring my novaguard to gold, I used to be of the same opinion as you - that novaguards were bronze/silver beasts but garbage on gold+.

Let me tell you, that is NOT the case if you know how to play the novaguard properly. High recharge bonuses allow for constant use of BC to replenish your barriers after a nova, and rolling after every charge/nova ensures much higher survivablity, as well as practically negating sync-kills once you get good at dodging. (Except banshees. F*** banshees, they'll insta-grab you even if they weren't looking at you, NEVER charge a banshee unless it's almost dead/in one of it's long animations.)

Edit: Kind of off topic, but I found it somewhat funny. Last night I was hosting a gold PUG as my novaguard and got into a match with 3 others. Match was going well, no one was rage quitting, but at wave 2 one guy started getting mad at me for killing everything, so I started to kill things that were away from him to prevent him from quitting (he was really good). So at wave 5 I noticed the guy was out-scoring me, and I thought "WTF is this? Someone's out-score-whoring my novaguard? I take that as a CHALLENGE MOTHAF***A" So I started going all-out with my novaguard and passed his point total and he rage quit on wave 7.

Sometimes I love pissing people off.

If your not good with a novaguard then yes nova is garbage as well as the character himself. I'm not trying to question your knowledge of the game, but merely pointing out that nova is awesome if you can use it right. (Just like some people are absolute beasts with Snipers, but then there are people like me that couldn't headshot a frozen banshee 5 feet in front of me) But as you say "different strokes for different folks"

I like playing with a novaguard in the team. Played right they are great tanks as well as detonating everything the team primes no matter what priming type.

That said I can understand people's fear of a novaguard in a pug, they are not easy to play right and they are terribad if not played well.

A good Novaguard is the ultimate team player, a bad one is light entertainment. I enjoy playing with both kinds.

I love playing with everyone! :D I don't care what they are, so long as they don't talk crap to anyone over the mic! Unless they are having a friendly banter. Then again, most people I encounter with mics speak other languages, now...

If they are host and know what they are doing then yes. However finding a pug that knows what he is doing in general is difficult... let alone finding a competent novaguard.

Oh how very unfortunate, but so very true. If anyone wants to see a decent novaguard in action feel free to add me, I play mostly gold these days and I would love to have some teammates than can appreciate and complement my novaguard instead of getting mad at me for killing everything.

GT is same as my BSN name.

Nova does ******-poor damage, but it's virtues are that it sets off every single proc in the game, gives you invulnerability, and doesn't use up your global cooldown.   On balance, it's still a fantastic power and easily in the top ten in the game, even now.

I rarely take novaguard to pug, because I rarely host and I don´t want to be THAT idiot who keeps charging away and dies. I also feel guilty when I play as one, because I am afraid the constant BOOM + WHAA HAAAA! must be annoying to listen and the tendency to charge anything out of my team mates grasp as well.

But I don´t have problem playing with them. If they know how to use it effectively and don´t require revive all the time, it will actually earn my respect.
