IMO, regardless of what you are I think of the idea and MMOs in general, Bioware is setting themselves up of an ME MMO. They've made their own IP that they have sole control over, set in a universe that in 3 years is already almost as deep and rich as Star Wars or Star Trek (dons flame retardant suit), even though each of those IPs has existed and had input from authors and writers for 3+ decades.
Add to it that Bioware is releasing their first MMO soon with SW:ToR, which, by my estimation, will be the least revolutionary MMO since WoW. ToR will serve two purposes:
1) It shows that bioware can develop a playable MMORPG as well as outstanding single player RPGs, furthering its reputation and renown.
2) It allows bioware to learn first hand about the MMO market and audience.
That said, I think that a Mass Effect MMO stands a very good chance of being an excellent MMO because of its rich background and highly malleable story. The mechanics are allready in place for many, many balanced classes and races. Notice that with few exceptions, for all their skills in a particular area, most species in the ME universe have some limitation that keeps them on about even terms.
Krogan are usually too violent and unstable to dedicate themselves to science or technology; the genophage's continued existence is proof of this.
Asari are generally more frail, and really do not develop as quickly as other species if you consider that most don't even leave home until they are 60 and don't start families till they are 100+.
Turians are inflexible and usually cannot think in terms of deception.
Salarians are short lived and noticeably frailer than other species.
Humans lack discipline and unity of action
The ME MMO is coming, hide your children.

*EDIT* I think if a ME MMO is made races will have limitations when it comes to classes. I mean, a Krogan lacks the brains to be an Engineer for example. Krogan would be best fitted as Tank because they have higher health though.
Quarians would only have 2 classes. Soldier and Engineer (maybe Infiltrator and Sentinel too), but they woun't be able to tank because they're practically weak when it comes to health.
Humans would have all classes, but they would be to general to actually have an advantage or disadvantage over other races. Humans wouldn't be a tank class either, unless they're sentinel because of they're sentinel armor and the soldier human would actually be more of a support class because of his many ammo types.
Geth would be ideal for tanks because of their high shields and medium-high armor, be carefull though, they have low health.

How would Quarians even work in a MMO? No faces?
Anyway, Salarian Sentinel for me.
Would assume a number of helmet options.
Hmm, Salarian Inflitrator or Turain Inflitrator.
Geth Inflitrator if given choice.
Definitly Infiltrator though.
Edit: Would prefer if MMO wasn't class based. Level up, choose new skill from tree(with reqs, of course). Maybe level up skill by use? Either way, prefer if class was self-built.

Armor customization with some very fine intricacies could work for that.
Turian Soldier, Human Biotic/Adept or Human/Drell Infiltrator.
And I would play a Mass Effect MMO; I'll just have to see how TOR fares before I make any presumptions on it. The lore and breadth is there, it all depends on whether Bioware would want to commit to it instead of continuing the series/doing spin-offs. The Mass Effect universe is too massive and rich to just let lie, especially when there's so much we haven't seen, and so much potential for more.

i agree with about everything here, they've put a lot of Lore into ME, and there is so much room in the MMO marketplace for a Sci-fi genre, but since Bioware is also doing the Star Wars online, i can't help doubt we'll see one
but one of the fun things about ME is its your story, its a great single player game, but so was KoToR, and from what i thought i understood of the KoToR online game, is its going to focus heavily on that single player expierence, just plus a bunch more people... I hope, if KoToR online goes well, and Bioware learns a lot from that, i'm hoping we'll see a ME MMO, but i could understand if they don't
if possible, i'd play as a Quarian or Turian, not sure as class, Soldier or Infiltrator maybe.

Also, Turian biotics have been seen in Mass Effect 1. He's called Saren.
