Care to Parle Again?

I decided to put my mass effect trilogy replay on hold and play for my first time DA2. I just finished beating my 2nd run of DAO w/ Awakening, GOA, & Witch Hunt on hard as an Arcane warrior. I plan on running mage again. I want to know some builds that are similar like arcane warrior in DAO if any. I also would like to know if I should get the DLC, because to me they seem unfruitful, and which companions are best with the class as well as what gear I should get and how to unlock other classes.

P.S. Im a guy in rl but I don't know if I should play one in this game due Kirkwall being full of male npcs and companions who are too friendly. Also wtf happened to Anders!!?!?!?

There are only 3 specializations for Mages in DA2, none of them are melee oriented so I don't think it's possible to build anything like an Arcane Warrior from DA:O. Not sure about the DLC, I just recently purchased it myself and am still playing through it, so I can't fully comment on that yet.

Use whatever companions you feel like bringing along, it's fun to make interesting party combos. You don't have to "unlock" any specializations, you just pick one at lv7 and lv14 again.

I hate the way females run in DA2 so I don't think I would ever play as one. Play the game and you'll find out what happened to Anders
