Perhaps I should have been more specific. I meant the actual romances. The actual romances do not sleep with you on day one.

And by stating this, you completely changed the premise of your argument to something I think we all agree on. ,

Still, you did just move the goalpost.

Maybe I roleplay a character that thinks it is all just a joke. Ever think of that? Wouldn't it be perfectly in-character for a character to be like that?

We're not winning hearts, we're fertilizing the flower.

Then you'll have to find another story that features that.

Trying to justify anything in a story on the grounds of 'it happens in real life' is ridiculous.

There are so many infinite things that happen all the time in real life that would be utterly crap writing. 'It happens in real life' is not justification for anything.

Dude, incorporating concepts from real life makes the material identifiable with the audience.

And? They aren't legitimate solely on the basis of 'this happens in real life.'

Who said anything about "solely"? Execution is always a priority, but using elements from real life specifically because they're from real life opens doors for the writing to be relatable and authentic to those experiencing it. And no, that's not "ridiculous" or "crap writing".

Of course, that's a broader topic than just "casual sex", but hey.

Really? Because I totally remember being able to vocalize by my Warden that sex is meaningless to him and that he doesn't believe in romance.

That's part of the Dragon Age story.

And I also remember being able to say something similar to Jack about casual sex. I don't actually ever do it with her, but the option is there nonetheless. And Shepard does say to Allers that no attachment keeps things simple and uncomplicated. Again, I don't actually bother with it in game, but again, the option is there.

That's part of the Mass Effect story.

He's played Mass Effect and knows that DA:O is a BioWare game.

What else does he need to know?

Apparently, to you there's a big difference between putting in content "specifically because [it's] from real life " and putting content solely on the basis of being from real life. Could you elaborate on the difference to me? Because they sound awfully similar to me.

I know. I just don't like thinking about DA2. I'm less angry that way.

So, if I'm getting the gist of this thread right, David doesn't want the PC to be able to visit brothels because he thinks the option existing somehow cheapens the actual romances?

Not all the time at the Blooming Rose. Madam Lusine likes to be a smartass, especially when you ask her for the bad girl/boy special

You can have player-character dialogue that supports pretty much anything. That doesn't mean developers should actually have characters carry through on what they say.

Maybe not brothels, but being able to charm a dozen women into boning you just by being that awesome? Yeah.

You do realise that both games feature a brothel in which you can screw hookers and even involve your romances in the fun?

Didn't you know that, David? Haven't you played Origins (or even DA2)?

Can you bone a dozen non-prostitutes just because your character says romance is meaningless and all s/he cares about is sex?

It doesn't cheapen the romances for me.

My last Hawke was a regular at the brothel, slept with Isabela, etc. However, none of that stopped me from crying like a little baby feeling emotional during the Merrimance scene (always cry feel emotional during it)

No.

You can only do about 3 or 4 in DA:O. I don't remember the number in DA2.

Simple: you handle it properly, without leaning on "it happens in real life" as an excuse.

As I said, incorporating real-life concepts opens doors, but it's up to the writing's quality to take the audience through those doors.

I named the npcs oyu could have sex with, alog with kissing. It's been in both games, DAI will 99% have it along with prostitutes.

I haven't actually seen anybody asking for the opportunity to bone a full dozen of non-prostitute women in the game as of yet.

Fenris and Isabela have a casual fling(as in it's a fling, there is no romance past  depending on dialog) and Zev.
