Im surprised nobody said Leliana, i think she has good chances of coming back

It's pretty obvious that she's gonna be in the game, but I highly doubt she's gonna be a companion

Why not? She is orlesianin a game set up in Orlais, she is with the seekers and we know cassandra is one, she appears in Asunder, and more importanly: Bioware made sure she would be alive. do you think it makes sense to retcon the death of a minor npc? i say it makes more sense if they had important plans for her, like being a companion. It isnt worth the money to create a substitute companion, so having her live makes it possible for everyone to have her. Finally consider that DA3 is trying to attract DAO fans by continuing leftover plot points and bringing back known faces, and Leliana would fit right in along with morrigan in the game.

I might be a temporary companion like Aria in Omega, but I doubt she'll a full companion. Morrigan probably isn't a companion either

Looks very legit if you ask me. Six companions is more then enough.

Hope they won't change anything in this.

There's still the rumored Qunari companion (Kossith), and as Han said the two pics next to Cassandra and the Grey Warden might be the Inquisitor

The Inquisitor seems to have forgot to wear his bat-ears. Sooo 'dark.'

Leliana is allready way past level 20. So you would have a PC and two other companions thats on level 1-5, and Leliana thats level 25. Makes it abit un-balanced gameplaywise.

They brought Anders back, despite him being even higher level than Leliana.  Levels are pretty meaningless in universe

Though I guess I would probably feel that Leliana, and the other DA:O companions, probably are too big heroes to serve as sidekicks to the next PC.

Quite true. Allthough Anders arrived in Kirkwall while he was gaining levels in Amaranthine. I guess he has a twin.

The only companion I *WANT* in the game, a Female Tal-Vashoth, is most assuredly not going to be in there.

So at this point I really don't care. I'm hopeful that they will come up with something that interests me but after DA2's companions I'm not going to hold my breath.

Leliana will be an npc.
Morrigan will be an npc.
Players insisting on them being playable won't make it so.

Unless Bioware makes them temparary companions like Aria, I agree

To be one hundred percent honest, I in my Witch Hunt playthrough Followed Morrigan through, meaning My Warden would obviously leave with her, So i would love to See the Warden commander show up, and at a realllllll longshot. Hawke, I'm not a huge Fan of DA2 but i gotta love my hawke XD. But loooking at your list, The characters your hoping for seem pretty darn interesting.

Isn't there already a temporary companions thread ?
I think temporary companions are unlikely.

I love how I made a thread about trying to find sources for companion predictions and it devolved into half-coherent shouting matches of "I want X companion!" or "Race/organization Y sucks!"

Stay classy, BSN.

To be fair, speculation only invites more speculation. Your list was well thought out and probably half right at least.

I just really want Varric in my party is all.

All very good possibilities OP. I hope the Iron Bull is in fact a companion.

That is, if there's more to him than meets the eye. Say that the only reason he has become a "kill, loot and drink kind of guy" is because he was an artisan or priest while under the Qun.

That would make him a much deeper character than his discription would suggest. Would probably also mean he's likely a very worldy and experienced person, and give us a very good window into the workings of Qunari society that we have never had up until that point.

That'd be my preference, anyway.

As for Varric, while I would love to see him again and would love it if he was back as a companion, I'd preffer if the focus was on creating new and interesting companions. He'll no doubt have a role in the story. How important is what remains to be seen. I just hope there are characters just as interesting and fun as Varric is. I mostly just want to meet new people in addition to the new places we'll be seing. New stuff is always welcome.

I'll be happy if there is a Tal-Vashoth companion, regardless of his backstory. We've already had a Qunari companion, so it would be interesting to have a character who is the polar opposite of Sten and has nothing but scorn for the Qun.

I agree with the OP that Cullen and Cassandra seem likely and I'd also say it's likely that they are both LIs. I also think it's likely we'll see someone from Asunder, maybe Cole although he could otherwise appear as an antagonist. A magister is another strong possibity but David Gaider has said Maevaris Tillani isn't a companion. See the 'what we know' thread for details. I guess she may put in an appearance at some point as he's also said we haven't heard the last of her. So could it be Dorian Pavus mentioned in the leak or someone else entirely?

I'm going to throw this in here...I don't think Cassandra will be a companion. I bet she'll be a bad guy, "Not all of us desire war Varric." then what do we see in the trailer??? Her leading a charge to destroy a fort. Yep totally a bad guy.

Because judging a character from 1 trailer where she appears for only a few seconds without knowing her reasons is such a good idea.

A good point.

After all we don't know who, or what Cassandra was attacking. Just prior to that you see Grey Wardens under siege, but being that it was a trailer, you don't know if you are seeing events in order or of the shots of the Grey Wardens and Cassandra were a mash-up of two unrelated scenes. You also don't know why she was attacking, whatever it was that she was attacking.

It was just an observation, and it's all speculation anyway.

As for not know who or what is being attacked in the trailer you are wrong. She's attacking a grey warden fort. Watch carefully and pause JUST before the gates break open, the Grey Warden emblem is on the gates and there are several Wardens leaping out of the way when it breaks open.

Why she's attacking is an unknown HOWEVER I'll point out that Avernis said blood magic is sometimes used in the ranks of Wardens and while they "disapprove" they don't do anything to stop it if that gets them what they need done. OOOOORRRR Morrigan could have taken refuge there? Alistair might be there? Hawke's brother/sister could be there OR you know she could be just a crazy brat who likes killing things...ALLLLL of the why is speculations. JUST LIKE THE OP...

That still doesn't mean Cassandra was the one actually attacking, the trailer implies it with how they made the scene look

I think it's pretty obvious Cassandra will be a companion .
I think most fans want her as a companion and not as an enemy of our Inquisitor protagonist.

Cullen as a possible companion / LI, hunh? Some how I just can't shake the feeling of what kind of dreadful surprise there will be waiting in his romance arc (if he is a chosen LI). Have nothing against the guy, but looking at Alistair-F!Warden (dark ritual) and Anders-Hawk... Yeah.

And as for those speculative companions.. I don't mind either of 'em anyway. Have no favourites, have no specific character that I hate.

I doubt Cole will be in it. If a player killed Wynne in DA:O, the events in Asunder will have played out very very differently. Alot of his recent history would have to be re-written accordingly, in order to make sense.

Why? Its been a while but I don't remember Wynne playing anything but a tangenital role in Cole's story.

Wynne had little to nothing to do with Cole.  I'm struggling to think of one instance that would have deviated for Cole if Wynne were absent...  Cole was motivated into action by Rhys - it was Rhys who served as his motivation for leaving the Spire, Rhys who he protected, and it was Lambert who (when fighting Rhys) used the litany against him.

Anders, Oghren, and Leliana could be straight-up murdered in-game, yet they appeared in sequels regardless.  I think the possible out-of-canon fate of a book character dependent upon the possible in-canon fate of another character isn't anything to fuss about.

...can you tell that I really, really want Cole in DAI?  Cuz' I do.  Image IPB

Rhys left the tower because Wynne requested it. That was the only reason. Without Wynne, Rhys would have stayed in prison and likely died. So Wynne is, indirectly, a very important character for the progression of Cole.

A voice of reason! Thank you for making your point without attitude. I hadn't thought about them twisting up the scenes to make it seem like something else entirely was going on, it's like a bad suspense show on prime time. I'm not sure who I'm rooting for as a companion. I suppose I don't want Cassandra as a companion because she's too much a combo of my two most hated characters in the storyline Morrigan and Aveline.

I guess my not liking Morrigan and Aveline is because...I'm a girl and played as a female character, I saw Morrigan as manipulative and...only slightly snarky on occasion while Aveline was trying to act like everyone's mother. It was annoying to listen to her b*tch about Carver's social life, tell Fenris to watch how he behaves so the nobles will stop complaining and then her issues with Isabela. Don't get me wrong I wasn't a fan of Isabela being a traitor and high tailing it out of town but she was at least FUN to bring into the group.

I hope you respond and indulge this tired old grey wolf in further conversation.
I loved Wynne.
Some people saw her as too preachy but I loved her and I admit I was distraught that Gaider chose to kill her off in one of his books.
I could relate to Wynne because I suspect were about the same age.
I relate to Morrigan because I grew up out in the country, with forests and pastures away from the city.
I relate to Aveline because she seems true blue to me. Trustworthy to the end.
What sort of character do you want the females in your party to have?
