I recently re-installed NWN2 on my E:\\ drive. I also use the E:\\ drive for the \\Documents folder where I store all the custom modules, etc.
I cannot access any of the custom content when I start the game. How do I re-direct the game to look in the E:\\Documents folder instead of the standard C:\\ folder?
Problems with NWN2 installed on E drive

Add:
-home "e:\\Documents\\Neverwinter Nights 2"
(or whatever your specific folder path is) to the shortcut you use to launch the game.

Sorry, I'm going to need some more info:
I'm using Win7 and the shortcut is installed in the Games folder. It's not giving me the ability to modify the properties from that location, and I don't have a shortcut in the start menu.
Also, I'm not really sure where I would insert the above line.
Thanks for you patience.

If you mean the Windows Game Explorer folder, Windows 7 removed the ability that the Game Explorer had in Vista to modify the properties of the shortcuts. You can still do it (I wrote a blog post describing some programs to do it), but it may be too much of a bother. As an alternative, make a new shortcut, and drag it into your Game Explorer window, or the desktop, or the start menu -- wherever.
I don't know where your game is installed, so I can't give you an exact line for the shortcut, but I can show you what mine looks like in the "Target" field.
"E:\\games\\Neverwinter Nights 2\\NWLauncher.exe" -home "E:\\games\\Neverwinter Nights 2\\User"
That puts my saved games, modules, and other resources in a subfolder within the folder where I have the game installed.
Note that I use the NWN2 Client Extension, so if you're not using that, then you want it to say "NWN2Launcher.exe" or "nwn2main.exe" instead of "NWLauncher.exe".

Sounds to me like your old install has left it's stuff in your registry. This i am not sure will work, but try to just run the games updater, from what i understand it actually adjusts your registry to fix any errors when you run it.
You can also make a text file ( notepad ), with the extension of bat, and put the above command in it and it should run when you double click it.

I tried both suggestions above, but it's still not working:
1) copied the shortcut to the desktop and edited it to the following:
"E:\\Program Files (x86)\\Atari\\Neverwinter Nights 2\\NWN2Launcher.exe" -home "E:\\My Documents\\Neverwinter Nights 2\\modules"
This would launch, but it would still look to C:\\Users\\ for the custom content.
2) created at .bat file with note pad with the following:
"E:\\Program Files (x86)\\Atari\\Neverwinter Nights 2\\nwn2.exe" -home "E:\\My Documents\\Neverwinter Nights 2\\"
But this would result in an error when I tried to launch.

Because you have the game installed in Program Files(x86), try running the shortcut you made as administrator.

I tried running the shortcut as administrator, but still the same result. I also tried deleting the \\Neverwinter Nights 2 folder in the C: drive, but that didn't have any effect either.
Is it possible I updated the game wrong? I reinstalled the game and the 2 expansions, and then updated right away, without starting either the game or the toolset.

Looks like I'll have to just move everything to the std folder. Really doesn't seem like what I'm trying to do should be that difficult, however.
Thanks for all the suggestions.

You're right that it shouldn't be difficult. I don't know why it's not working for you. I wish I could be of more help, but what I pasted above is exactly what I'm using, so I don't know what else I can do.

You can edit your registry directly, you know. See if there are any extraneous/duplicate entries.
Google "regedit"
