So I'm slowly starting to learn the toolset for dragon age origins, however whenever I go to make a new NPC or item or the like the veiw screen where it shows a preview of the object I am creating is so dark I can not see a thing I am doing. There has to be a way to lighten things up a bit! Is there?

Damn! No one else has had this issue? How do you people design levels!

There's no way to alter object brightness that I am aware of, outside of changing your monitor settings of course. You can change the background colour in the options, which might alter the contrast and make things easier for you. As to how you see well enough to create levels and such, lots of camera zooming and rotation (always a chore given how terrible the camera controls are).

The way the Toolset is designed, the preview options when viewing NPC armor wasn't meant to be used for detailed modeling but rather a basic preview of the armor you choose. Lighting is more accurate when using the level editor as a design tool since lighting is a part of the design process.
If you wish to see the result of any material or tint changes you make to existing armor, the only way to accurately see the results is by previewing it in the game itself. The effect varies depending on the level lighting settings in the area/level you're in.
