So a pro-templar back in DA2 couldn't get rid of Merrill (who had made a pact with a demon and was using blood magic) and had to put up with Anders for half the game (even when knowing of his plans and attacks against the Circle). Then on the other-hand these companions never turn against us even when we're doing things contrary to what they believe in. Merrill only turns at the end if you side with the templars and IIRC you can talk her out of it if you have high friendship or rivalry with her.

So I ask for options to betray companions. Let us turn that blood mage companion into a tranquil instead of being lumbered with him for the whole game as we play an anti-mage character. Let a pro-mage character imprison the templar zealot who wants all mages dead. Finding Anders' manifestos in my mansion and getting letters from him got old fast and we had to put up with it until ACT II where we could kindly tell him to **** off.

I can only imagine how annoying a DA game set in the modern time would be. We'd be getting texts and social media messages constantly from that companion we just don't want to know.

The worst part was where we could tell Cullen of Anders but nothing was done with it! Way to tease us Bioware...

Not only do I want to see that blood mage taken away from me next time but I want to see him thrashed and then tranquiled so I know he's gone for good. When I speak to him I want him to say afterwards "I am insignificent to you SIR."

I just want to be able to kick them out of the party. Dragging around someone who my character can't stand is meh.

I have to admit, I do really appreciate the opportunity to prune the party of people the PC might have a moral objection to bringing along. Fortunately I never ran into anyone like this in DA2 or any of the Mass Effect games, but I liked the fact that I didn't need to have Sten (for example) with me on my two main Wardens. I felt like it made my group feel closer if it doesn't have one guy or two that stands out that I hate.

Why would you want to get rid of Merrill?

Did you not gigglesqueal?

Did you not nomnomnom on her head?
-----------------------------------------------------------

It would also be nice to see some more inititiave from our companions if the behavior of our NPC goes too strongly against their beliefs.

I liked the Sacred Ashes "crisis point" in DA:O, some actions merit more than a big disapproval/rivalry hit.

Killing party members could have bad consequences in this game You've been warned.
shrugs.
I don't intend to kill any or kick out any.
I'll find a use for any I don't like.

I'd love the option. I am by no means a psychopath when it comes to the control of my companions, but, frankly if I am playing a hard, solid Templar, that potential blood mage companion won't stay in my party. Hell, game permits, they won't even get the option (a la Zevran). That's all I truly want out of DA:I: true control of our playthroughs.

Yeah to say:

"Damn right Elton John is Dead! This will be in Inqusition and you can make mages you capture tranquil too! Hell just come and work for us!"

Naturally I'll have to turn him down being the shadow CEO of E.A and all that.

Well the options to get rid off companions don't need to be limited to killing them. With Fenris - for example - you can give him back to his master but that's way late into Act III. Something like that not only ensures the character can return (if they have a large part to play later on for some reason or another) but Bioware would never have to come up with an excuse as to why they're still alive when they were killed in a prior game.

We've got some players who want to act like psychos in the game and kill everyone.
The goods from Australia is there WILL BE CONSEQUENCES for players acts in DAI.
That's a good thing btw.
Merrill is a poor example because you never had to follow her wishes and she could still be your Li.
If DAI has gifts like DAO you can just bribe the other party members.
I hope we have persuasion back.
If not party members might leave anyway if the bribes aren't enough or don't work.
So it might happen anyway without the tc asking for anything new to be added to the game.

It probably already has. The topic naturally is for discussion and maybe for someone from Bioware maybe to say we can expect more party control like in Origins.

Technically, no one is your companion in DA2 if they're not physically with you. For example, you can just tell Merrill off the second you get her to her house (she's surprised if you come back). You're then never forced to have her around.

I think the issue comes up when they're not blacked out from the pick-your-party screen, like Bethany/Carver.

I like have companions who disagree with you......just because you disagree doesn't mean you can't respect one another. Makes things more fun.

I am for this. I believe you should have the option of offing companions who are contrary to your goals. That said, I hope Bioware provides us with enough potential companions in order to make this possible.

Supposedly there will be only 10 total possible companions .
There's another thread about that.
I'm against kilking companions period.
If there's an affinity index or something similar if it's negative at a certain point in the game then the companion leaves and that should be enough.

Just because I respect someone doesn't mean I don't want to kill them or kick them out of my party.

Agreed. DAO let us kick out anyone we didn't like and this should've been allowed in DA2.

The more freedom you have to kill or dismiss companions, the less of a role they can actually play in a story and with each other.

Bioware always finds a way if they want to. Leliana, Sten, Anders are some examples.

Morrigan as well. They do not have to be in the party to influence the plot.

Every time she mentioned blood magic and hand-waived the dangers, I wanted Hawke to take an axe to that empty vessel she calls a head.
