To be fair, squadmates are the only ones we're going to "spend a significant time around".
Shopkeepers, ambient NPCs in hubs, and enemies.
There also the plot-important NPCs, like Victus or Shala'Raan, but they aren't elcor or hanar.

That Quarian has purple skin, as opposed to the more human-like skin tone in the Tali reveal.

That was one thing I thought was pretty important. Quarians probably shouldn't be purple just because Tali is.
Tali isn't purple

I never envisioned her as being purple, but all this constant fanart dipicting her skin color as being purple has tainted me some.

I actually don't mind Quarians being a greyish purple or purple

A ligter hue, perhaps.

See, now this is just lazy. The Quarians look almost exactly like humans? I certainly hope they do something different.

Read the codex. They were always supposed to look that way.

"Quarian facial structure and hair actually makes them the most similar to humans in physical appearance, the only differences are their eyes and analogue ears"

That's not a rant saying they SHOULDN'T do better. It's a rant at a very inane phrase...'they could do better'. They COULD have done better with the Quarian faces, but then again, why spend resources on something only a few people would ever see? Resources that would be better served on other things.
As far as how the Quarians look...I always envisioned them as somewhat leonine. Especially with those wide spaced, almond shaped eyes. Frankly, I'm tired of humanoid aliens. It'd be nice if the next game company to start a game franchise actually hired a xenobiologist to design alien races from the bottom up.

I get so tired of that arguement. "Well, they could have done (insert item) better!" Well, D'UH! EVERYTHING can be better. When DaVinci carved 'Micheal', he probably thought he could have done better. When Micheal looked at how un-endowed his statue was, I'm sure HE thought DaVinci could have done better (rimshot). Saying they could do better is like saying water is wet and fire is hot. No d'uh Sherlock.

Aliens don't exist.
And besides, how can you imagine them as leonine when you clearly see their humanoid facial structure in ME2?

Of course there's a possibility of intelligent life beyond Earth, but we can't possibly imagine what they'd look like. There's nothing that speaks against humanoid aliens, if they evolved on a planet similar to Earth.

Errr...yeah. As far as we know, aliens don't exist. Your point? Nothing in my little screed claimed a pro or anti stance on the existence of aliens. Or, are you claiming the field of xenobiology doesn't exist? Because it does.
Leonine does not preclude human facial structure.

Would it really have cost them that much to get the rights to use Liz Sroka's image as the face of Tali.
Probably not, but since that image was free for use from Getty Images, why bother? "Hello, we'd like to pay you for something we can get for free. Here, take our money, our investors won't mind!" Let's not forget, you only get the picture with Tali's face if you follow a specific, and somewhat narrow, quest path. Most people probably don't get it. I know of my 3 playthroughs I only got it once, and I forgot how.

Pale/gray skin, glowy eyes, body marks that suggest the existence of cybernetic implants, etc.
The problem resides on the way they have shown them... I mean, the first was presented using a generic pic and the other one was dull face covered in a hood.
