These two things seem to be an everlasting debate on alot of games.  After doing some research I think I seem to understand the two, but Im wondering if triple buffering is enabled properly on my PC.  AS I understand, theres a drawback with v sync that actually halves your frame rate if you go under the 60hz or whatever your monitor refresh rate is at.  With vsync disabled i notice little to no graphical tearing (but still noticable in some areas), but with it enabled I notice slower frame rates in certain areas.  So I tried to enable tripple buffering, which I did by changing the value from 0 to 1 in the dragonage.cfg file.  If Im correct, this should actually counter the halving of the framerate and make the game alot smoother?  Only I noticed no difference at all.  As it is at the moment id rather play with vsync disabled but Im wondering if the triple buffering option is working for anyone else.

You will need to enable Triple Buffering in your Video Driver (ATI or nVidia) control panel. I force Triple Buffering on and use Vsync enabled on my games. This seems to provide a reasonable solution with better sustained FPS and no screen tearing.

The Problem with V sync is that it CAN increase frame rates..BUT it can only give you a maximum of how ever fast you have your screen refresh rate set to. Triple Buffering can increase frames because it triple buffers the frames but doing so may cause a little skipping. Triple Buffering actually can't be enabled without V Sync enabled. I'm no expert on the problem, but when I had my old computer I had to use VSync and Triple Buffering on WoW to get good frames. V Sync can cause excessive screen tearing if your computer isn't good enough to handle it. My advice is that if you are getting at least 20-25 frames already, I wouldn't use VSync.

vsync is good to have on if you have a powerful computer and your fps in game are way too high.

Some games I play, the fps will go past 200fps and it will begin to skip (almost looks like lag)

turning vsync on it locks my fps in most games to 75fps with the monitor. It all depends on your computer hardware and what it can handle.
