Topic says it all, maybe I'll create a poll later when I have some more time?

Which race do you think gets more fascination than is due, or is all talk and no action? For me, it's a toss-up between the asari and krogan. Both are treated like they are gods, the Codex especially hypes up the asari, but they fold faster than a house of cards, and the krogan are nothing more than brutish idiotic thugs who nearly wiped out the galaxy.

What about you guys? What do you think?

Is that overrated by the game or overrated by the fans?

Regardless, the answer to both is Prothean.

Geth. I hate the way they went with them in ME3.

I'm not so sure how the Asari are "overhyped". It's not like it is ever said that they are a great militaristic state that has a great history of victory in war. No.....they're hyped because they're the "apex of democracy". War is not their particular field of expertise. They have very few occurences of war, low crime etc etc.

Can't say I'm inclined to say the Krogan are overrated either. They are by far the best ground force in the galaxy (only when they unite). They've always been held back by the other races. Whenever the krogan species (as a whole) gets out of line, they have the 3 council races devising over-the-top schemes to stop them.

My opinion of the most overrated species?

The Geth...well, if you can call them a "species". I have no idea why everybody cares so much about them. I can see why they are liked. Legion is cool. But when it comes to the fate of the entire galaxy and everything and everyone you know....the Geth aren't anything but scrap metal.

Runner-up? The Raloi. Dear goddess....I just do not understand it. Anytime there's a "Most Anticipated/What do you want to see in ME4" thread, Raloi is one of the first things to come up. Why?! We haven't seen any. In fact, we know nothing more than the fact that they destroy their own satellites to try and avoid annihilation via the Reapers. That's it. For all we know they could be the Hanars distant cousins or the descendants of a Vorcha/Drell crossbreed genetic experiment. (Probably not, but the point is that we know nothing). They can be skulking droolers or something entirely different than humanoid. All the hype over nothing.

That very fact that we havent seen them is what makes them intresting.

We know something about the raloi, we know theyre a new race like yahg and those are always cool to see.  We know they are avian(bird like) but thats about it. The fact is they are something new so of course people are intrested in seeing them. The drell were new when ME2 came, every race was new when ME series started.

well, I'm not sure where you're getting that information, but it certainly wasnt "in-game". And I'm not so inclined to say something is interesting when we know nothing about it other than its name. Usually I have to know a bit more than "it exists" in order to be interested.

Note: just checked the Wiki....is this where you got your info? So, theyre recently uplifted and they could quite possibly be a varren with wings (and a brain). I'll pass.

so were the Vorcha. Don't see many people hyping them up.

How surprising to see primitives being butthurt over being primitives. Maybe if you left your cave once in a while, you'd get somewhere.

Asari.. but only for the apparent sex appeal. They're OK otherwise.

I'd like to say humans being so powerful is ridiculous, but it's not about humans being overrated.. it's the ascension methods from reaper and prothean tech and mass relays that's overrated. But take that away, and you take out the whole basis for the Mass Effect storyline.

I believe the OP is implying such species are overrated in terms of warfare.

How are they overrated? They're one of the most demonized races in ME3.

yes, being apex would probably be related to that.

Toss-up between humans and asari. ME2 in particular makes humanity this super special race and the asari are such a cliche I'm horrified by them.

if we're speaking of "apex" in general, then yeah....most definitely.

But with the Asari being called the "Apex of Democracy", I'm not sure how that makes them overrated in terms of War. They're the thinkers. For the most part their Homeworld is peaceful, as well as their culture. They're not warmongers like some other species. They're not known for being the victors of war. So, they can't be "overrated" in this category if they've never been hyped up as such.

If you wonder just how to rate Humans in the galactic scheme of things, just ask a Image IPB(Gray), they'll tell you...

brings us full circus back to 'control' and that is what being "Apex Race" is all about.  Most would say democracy is big stick dependent? (as in war machinery/mentat)Image IPB
