What about adding the option of 2 player Co-Op to the next ME? (offline and online)

The whole pause time command hud thing will still be in the game if you don't do 2 player co op but if you do then it would be kinda like multiplayer where it just doesn't stop time and the enemies can still do their normal A.I. stuff while you try use the commands/powers. The reason for that is because with 2 human players it would be annoying and impractical for one of the players to just stop time whenever.

Also since they "borrowed" some gameplay mechanics from Gears of War, I was thinking of the squad size being increased to 4 where either only one human player can control one computer player each or just one human player (player 1) can control both computer players while the other human player has no control over the computer players. And/or occasionally on certain missions your squad can be "split up" due to circumstances, strategic or natural causes and you can control one computer player while the other human can control the other.

The main character (player 1) will still have most if not all of the dialogue options and story input as before or if you are playing co-op the other human player can play a role sometimes in dialogue but obviously not as much as the main characters (player 1). Or the other human player will just have the same forced dialogue as the computer players have normally just like in ME 1 - 3.

One other thing to consider if they do co-op is how to handle increasing the difficulty since there is two human players intead of one. That can be probably fixed because now you have to give your commands to your squad live instead of pausing time. The A.I. can still shoot at you when you use the command hud and move around making it more difficult to give out orders.

I just think it will add some more fun to the game for some people who have friends. You don't have to do co-op and it will add no benefit or extra content to the game.

I think the campaign has to be sp only. Co op can still be in the game, but it should have its own separate mode or story. Mass effects story gets complicated enough with just one player.

Yeah, I agree with this. It's an interesting idea, but it would detract too much from the game, I fear, since it would require quite a bit of work.
If they assigned a second team (like with multiplayer for ME3) to work in a co-op mode, I'd definitely welcome it :) but at the end of the day, I look to Bioware for great single-player experiences.
