Do you think/wish some Squad members should have died in the final battle apart from at the Beam run?

That sounds like a cinematic design issue rather than a writing one.

How would your squadmates sacrificing themselves to ensure your success in the final battle not be a "meaningful death?"

The player should never be punished for bringing the characters they like on missions unless there is very significant foreshadowing.

Are Thane fans punished when he's no longer a crew member, and dies? Or does this only apply to current crew some how?

Thane's death was explicitly foreshadowed from the beginning. It was always made clear he was going to die.

I don't think it would work all that well since Shepard's job is essentially over when Priority Earth kicks off - the action changes from commando ops to massed infantry charges (except that Shepard magically turns out to be more capable than a tank battalion); it would be like the squad mate pulling Shepard up at the end of ME2 getting shot by a Collector - certainly possible, but a kinda pointless death.

If you want deaths, you should probably have them happen earlier.

Point me where it was forshadowed he was going to get stabbed by a lame ninja because Thane was an idiot who ran towards a guy with a knife.

That's irrelevant. I distinctly remember you proclaiming that there should have been an option to save Thane no matter what and that the fight with Leng was ultimately not the reason behind the frustration with his death, House.

Wrong, I said there should have been a way to save him, not always be able to save him. It would be wise to take off your selective reading glasses. Does not change the fact that Thanes death was done very poorly, always happens and it has nothing to do with his illness.

From an in-universe perspective, no. From a meta-perspective, Thane's death has everything to do with his illness.

Ah, yes. A symptom of Kepral's syndrome is being impaled by a sword.

How did Thane die. Did he die because he ran out of oxygen? Did he die because his lungs failed? No he died from a stab wound because HE RAN AT A GUY WITH A KNIFE. Last time i checked, his illness in ME2 said nothing about being stupid and getting stabbed.

Maybe I should have posted the words "From a meta-perspective" in bold? Size 72 font? All caps?

He died because he was going to die. Either from Kepral's syndrome or something. BioWare gave him a player friendly death since having him just die in a hospital would be unsatisfying.

And they couldn't just cure Kepral's syndrome.

If he was in top condition he wouldn't have let some scrub like Leng stab him.

Bit of a stretch there. It might be more accurate to say was not only the cause of his illness.

Considering Thane himself mentions running as being difficult over the intercom and on his death bed makes specific mention of being a terminally ill Drell fighting an assassin, it's not unreasonable to conclude that his illness was a partial cause, even if stupidity also played a role.

Can bring Shepard back from the dead, can't cure the lungs of a drell.

To be totally fair, Thane probably wouldn't have died if it weren't for his KS. The doctor says "there isn't much time" in context of the blood that Thane lost from the stab. Given how advanced he is in his disease, whatever blood he did have wasn't carrying oxygen throughout his body. If he didn't have KS, chances are he could have recovered.

Claiming that it's a plot hole for Thane's disease not to be cured because Shepard was brought back to life is like claiming it's a plot hole for my browser to run slowly because supercomputers exist.

Silly House! Don't you know that Lazarus was little more than a plot device to fast forward the story by two years and break up the squad and never again?

Sure. There should've been more instances where any member of your squad could die.....and/or there should've been moments when an entire fleet or battalion could've been wiped out, had you incorrectly assigned them to a particular task.

Interesting discussion, but we all know this is about some people not wanting Liara to die.

On anyone's playthrough.

Because she's like James Bond.

You have no problem with someone coming back to life (despite the fact that Shepards body should have been destoryed) but  you have a problem with curing Thanes illness? Oh lawd.
