Which mage do you prefer to assist you vs. the High Dragon: Morrigan, Wynne, Warden, some combination thereof, or none of the above?
Recently I battled the dragon (on Normal difficulty) using Warden (Rogue), Alistair, Charlie (Dog) and Wynne. Our only fire resistance is as follows:
Fire Resistance Gear/Items:
Alistair: AodH, lesser fire balm
Charlie: Siege-Breaker, lesser fire balm
Warden: Wade's Drakescale Armor (not superior), lesser fire balm
Wynne: Nothing
While killing the dragon wasn't fast, it was very, very smooth with Wynne's help. Alistair and Charlie would get in melee, Warden would bow with a tier 6/7 long bow (does 9.60 damage) with his tactics disabled. Everyone would use lesser heal poultice if taking 15% damage or more, Warden would try to stay at range at all times. Here's how Wynn helped:
1) Heal/Regen constantly (no surprise here as she's a healer)
2) Anytime the dragon would do some powerful area effect hurting two or more party members badly, Wynne would counter with Group Heal
3) Raise any fallen melees (none fell this time)
4) Heroic offense constantly
5) She did of course gulp lots of lesser lyrium potions - but that's OK, as we forged 99 before this fight. We forged 99 lesser health poultices too before fight.
5) Forcefield on near dead party members or any grabbed - dog can't be grabbed so that helped, so as a result only had to forcefield a few times.
6) Occassionally she did stone fist or arcane bolt
This was enough for complete victory. Wynne is my favorite mage to take with me for Dragon Hunting.
Which mage do you prefer to assist you vs. the High Dragon?

I usually use Wynne for just about everything.

I too prefer Wynne for this fight. I also like to set her up to cast Heroic Defense and Glyph of Warding on the Tank as often as possible. Telekinetic Weapons for the dragon's tough skin as well.

I prefer my AW solo on nightmare, (well i do have 3 ash monsters that i got from the puzzle right before the urn,
but they are dead in an instant anyway)
i need 2-3 small health potions to stay safe,
i.e less than 50% life -> smaller health potion.
Gear: cailens stuff preferably, and lifegiver, andruils blessing, high regard of house dace.
Sustainables: about everyone there is, but specifically telekinetic weapons,
rock armor, shimmering shield, haste.
Offensive spells: none, just hack away, i do like paralyze runes on a monster this big.

Morrigan because around that time she's usually a good enough healer (or maybe not) and by that time I've already used Wynne for everythingggggg.

In my case, I did this rather early...e.g., just Lothering/Circle/Redcliffe village/castle then Ruined Temple. Thus, Wynne only learned two spells (mindblast/forcefield) since I've picked her up in the Circle.

I usually go for as many mages as possible for that fight

They're both very good in this fight. Wynne can keep your tank (for which I prefer Shale as she cannot be grabbed) alive pretty much indefinitely if she's geared towards it exclusively. She'll make the fight a guaranteed, if slow, win (which perhaps kills the excitement)...?
Morrigan meanwhile has some really nifty cold spells which are extremely effective against the high dragon - especially with a few debuffs too. With the Heal spell (perhaps even have the Spirit Healer spec?) she makes a serviceable stand-in for Wynne - I once did the fight with no-one but Shale and Morrigan (and a bazillion potions). All round a more interesting fight.
Both + warden + tank = cakewalk.

Having played using a mostly primal mage all the way to the end battle, I'd say elemental damage doesn't work so well on archdemons... or on dragons generally. Sooo long killing Archy with spells, much longer than any melee or archery attempts, and the High Dragon took a belabored effort as well. The wiki backs me on that one as well regarding creature resistances. So if you've decked out Morrigan on offense she's probably not going to be the big hitter. Wynne's backup heals and such will be better, not to mention Forcefield if you get chomped. Otherwise there's not much in the way of choices as to which mage to bring: DAO has a whopping two to choose from. (At least BG has four, plus clerics... OK, Quayle isn't much of a mage, but still...)
I usually just wait until I've got Wade's best plate and the Ring of Ages, let the near-immune taunting tank keep absorbing ineffectual fire blasts, and plunk away with arrows until it's over. The tank does best when on the side away from those chomps and even behind the stone wall where no grabbiness can happen, though the fire breath does shoot straight through those stone walls, so it's not much protection... Any mage will do, the tank seldom suffering enough for emergency heals anyway, particularly if wearing regen equipment.

Morrigan. Because Wynne never makes it out of the Circle tower alive.

You're making your life unnecessarily complicated when you kill the only Spirit Healer you get until level 14.

I never saw the use of spirit healer beside replacing injury kits,
i think a single heal spell is more mana efficient,
and injury kits are lootable all over the place anyway.

Wynne's group heal is very powerful...quite useful when facing enemy fireballs or dragons. A single heal spell is not going to get everyone up to speed in time, especially, if the group is mostly at 25% health (has happened to me before).
Resurrection mid-battle can also be a game-changer.
Now if you are a player who likes big area effects (firestorms, blizzards, etc.) then sure Morrigan is your mage. But if you love melee (like I do) then Wynne is a great support mage - her massive tactics she can use helps to make her "hands off" too, which is just simply convenient - Morrigan never seems to have enough tactics for me until the end of the game.

I usually play as a Surana so my parties consist of Alistair, Zevran and/or Leliana, or Ser Gilmore (I have the mod). If I play a Cousland or Dalish/CE, I prefer to use Wynne (and do the Circle first to get her as soon as possible). I love Morrigan, she's hilarious, but prefer Wynne's healing and support to Morrigan.
