For the first time playing in a long time, I happened to open up the option for multiclassing the player-companions
And as topic states, I would very much like some tips on possible (and/or enjoyable) multiclassing possibilities for the companions featured in the OC.

For this playthrough, then I am playing as a simplified "Jack of Hearts".

I have read several buildsites and such, but they mostly offer player-spec that emulate the companions, not utilizing the strengths or limits that is somewhat pre-set...
My knowledge of the synergies and the ruleset is somewhat limited, but I don't need to spoon-fed builds either :)

Any tips are greatly appreciated! :)

Most of them are (a) very heavily invested in their class when you meet them, and (B) really best suited to stay as they are in any case.

The best candidates for multi-classing are the earliest - Neeshka and Khelgar. Several things can be done with the dwarf, but a fun-but-not-optimal approach is early monkification of Brother KI. Neeshka can easily add fighter or ranger levels early, shadowdancer later; but keep in mind, nothing you do is going to turn her into a powerhouse.  An interesting option is to give her a wizard or cleric level so she can gain immediate access to the more powerful scrolls (think of her as the Red Mouser).

Casavir abandoning paladinhood for fighter works well and fits the story - especially if your PC is less than LG.  And if you do monkify Khelgar, Casavir or Elanee is going to want Tower Shield Proficiency for the Umber Hulk Tower Shield you're going to inherit from Shandra.  Bishop can grab a fighter level or two for extra proficiencies. And Shandra is really sort of swashbuckling when you get down to it.

Thank you for the quick response! :)

Yeah my thought exactly, for the most "effect", then the earlier you encounter the character, the more you can get out of them.
I also have Elanee from the same level as N&K, but as a druid she benefits the most from staying mostly pure?

Not very familiar with the (Prestige and other) classes added after vanilla NWN2, just need to get my head down to reading again, hehe... :D

I just threw in an edit about Elanee - but with or without the Tower Shield, she works best as pure Druid.  You really, really want those level 8 and 9 Druid spells.

Three months too late but anyone wants to replay it with multiclassing available, here's a few tips.
With Kaedrin's pack you get even more options.

Neeshka:
She only needs 1 level of Shadowdancer to HiPS if you can spare the feats.
You could also get 1 Cleric level to get Feint or some other feat and the proficiencies.
With K's pack, Invisible Blade advances Sneak Attack but you need high Bluff and Feint.

Khelgar:
Pure fighter is fine. Go tank mode with Tower Shield and a Dwarven Waraxe.
You could make him a Dwarven Defender if you change his alignment but it's more forced.
If you make him a Monk, then get him 1 level of Cleric and then Sacred Fist. Then he can wear Mithral Breastplate.
Pure Monk works fine also for better defense. That Spell Resistance is worth it on it's own.

Elanee:
Pure Druid, no exceptions. Just give her the Dino and maybe Zen Archery with Owl's Insight spell.
With K's pack she becomes even more beastly. Pun intended.

Sand:
Eh. Maybe Martial Weapons and into Eldritch Knight? Maybe 1 Swashbuckler or Fighter and EK.
Not fitting to him but Pale Master could work just for the defenses.
Maybe Arcane Scholar but more fitting to Qara.

Qara:
Arcane Scholar of Candlekeep full force to maximize on her metamagic firebrands and Isaacs.

Casavir:
Pure Paladin works fine.
With K's pack you get ton of options. Shining Blade, Champion of the Silver Flame etc.
Or if you keep him pure, you get the Divine Spirit abilities which are awesome, plus new spells.

Grobnar:
Pure bard, but maximize on the Inspire Courage ability with K's pack with Inspirational Boost, Song of the Heart, Leadership (omg Grobnar a leader).
Alternatively, 1 Cleric level for Divine Might/Shield and Battle Caster to make him more tanky.
Maybe Snowflake Wardance if you keep him with light stuff.

Construct:
Pure Fighter. Just get the standard Creature feats and you'll be fine. It's a freaking construct.

Shandra:
Eh, standard Short Sword feats, probably Two-Weapon Fighting. Maybe Tempest?

Zhjaeve:
Stormlord is one. Doomguide is the other? If you don't care about her character.
She's a Cleric, just cast buffs, Divine Power and watch her destroy stuff.

Ammon Jerro:
The one and only Hellfire Warlock. Especially with K's pack to advance the blasts, absolutely fitting to him.
If you use K's pack, get Empower/Maximize Eldritch Blast and Eldritch Glaive.
He becomes godly.
Alternatively, Blackguard for defense and proficiencies if you can spare the requirements.

Bishop:
Pure Ranger works fine. Just get him the dino. With K's pack you get bonus spells such as Halo of Sand to increase his defenses.
Perhaps Elemental Archer for a PrC?

And you can't kill the companions, just knock them out, unless if you mean the final battle.

I've found it useful for Hellfire Warlocks to also take at least four levels of Favoured Soul. Then you can cast Lesser Restoration on yourself when your HW abilities drain your constitution too much.
