BioWare has also been unable to fully execute any DLC plan to date. Origins was abandoned halfway through; DA2 was abandoned halfway through.
Confidence is low. I'd rather they just concentrate on one thing at a time.

But unless I get very specific informations on those DLC plans, I will hold my money where I can see it.

Mass Effect 2 had The Price of Revenge, Stolen Memories, Overlord, and Liar of the Shadow Broker.
Mass Effect 3 had From Ashes, Return to Omega, Citadel, and Leviathan.
If a season pass covered three DLCs, it would have mitigated the DLC cost for all three games. DA II is the only time where a Season Pass would have screwed over the buyer.
I assume appearance and item packs would be put out during the DLC schedule but not covered by the pass.BasilKarlo wrote...
Season Passes can be great, but they can also be a pain in the butt. Numerous games have had them but then right in the middle of the DLC schedule put out content that's not included with the season pass.

But you're correct that I should have specified the DA team instead of BioWare in general.
I haven't seen anything to give me confidence that DA3 is going to fare any better when it comes to post-release support, and I'd rather they concentrate on putting out the best content they feel like making than just pumping stuff out because they have to (even if they reach a point where it's decided to no longer be a wise use of resources).
It would be great for DLC to go on sale or otherwise cost less. I do agree with that. But I don't think simply giving them a bunch of money upfront for the promise of savings later is the way to go about it, especially with their track record.

Cancelling DLC that wasn't promised to consumers, and hadn't been paid for, isn't a big deal.devSin wrote...
Origins was scheduled for at least two years of content. DA2 obviously had an expansion, and I suspect one or two more DLC as well, all of which got canceled.

A season pass is a completely different situation. It's an explicit promise to provide a certain amount of content.

I bought the season pass for Saints Row The Third and Borderlands 2, I think those are the only games in my library where a season pass were offered.Plaintiff wrote...
I'd buy it. I always buy a season pass when it's offered, unless I know ahead of time that the DLC is not going to appeal to me (ie it will be mostly multiplayer-based).
If a season pass had been offered for DA2, they probably wouldn't have halted the DLC development. Personally, despite the wait, I think I will prefer the way things have turned out.Maria Caliban wrote...

I haven't actually got around to playing the AC3 DLC, but I still like knowing that I can pick it up whenever I want and it won't cost me any more.
Season Passes are great, generally, and I've been thinking for a long time that Bioware should offer them.

Would it have been better for Aidan and his team to have worked on more DLC even after Mark decided the effort was better spent elsewhere?
Based on their past efforts, I don't trust that this team has much solid idea of what the situation is going to look like far enough into the future that they should be making any such commitment. I would rather they take each one as it comes, and evaluate what's best for the franchise as a whole (even if I'm disappointed by the decision) than be required to dutifully churn out content just because some people already paid in advance.

Yea, I can say the same about the Borderlands 2 DLC. Except the first one, as that was a playable character. "Remind me to give you an extra arm just for high-fives!"Plaintiff wrote...

We'll never know what would've been "better", and neither will they. I know I personally would've preferred to see the expansion, or never have been told about it.
Obviously they should only offer a season pass covering content they definitely plan to release. That rather goes without saying.Based on their past efforts, I don't trust that this team has much solid idea of what the situation is going to look like far enough into the future that they should be making any such commitment. I think it was the wrong decision too, but I trust that Mark knows what's best for the team better than I do.Plaintiff wrote...

And I'm glad he was able to make that decision (even if I wish he had decided differently), instead of being forced to divert resources away from products that have better potential to help the franchise just to honor some gimmick commitments.
I'm not opposed to saving money, obviously, but I think they've shown the benefits of not having a pass, and their willingness to change their minds leaves me questioning whether they're even in a position to offer one.

It should have one.
I concur.
For a developer who consistently puts out Story DLC content on a predictable schedule for their games, it makes little sense to me not to gain the benefit of having many of your fans stay invested in every DLC released.
While one DLC may not scream out "I have to play this" to a player, if they had bought the Season Pass and are going to get a discount, they may pick it up and play it, just to get their money's worth. That results in higher penetration rates, increased revenue (even discounted revenue is still money coming in) and more of a reason to not sell your game back to anywhere, where the developer would be cut out on the Used game sale.
All round, I think it is a solid model Bioware should look at. The only negative is the bad press the model has because developers who haven't consistently developed DLC don't know how to deliver it on a regular, timed interval. Bioware has been proving they can do that since 2009, so I see no reason there should be many roadblocks to its implementation.

every ea game has online pass. lock thread pls
For one, this was never true for EVERY game. For two, it's not true of ANY EA game anymore (they suspended the practice). And for three, the online pass has nothing to do with a Season Pass.
An Online Pass is a paid pass for a Used game to utilize the MP/online functionality.
The Season Pass is a purchase that can be paid that gives the player a discount on all future DLC. If you bought a Season Pass for $10 at the release of the game, you could buy every piece of DLC that is released (or, at least, explicitly covered by the Season Pass) for a varying discount, usually around 50% (although it can be totally free).
This way, if you paid $10 for your pass at the release of the game and the developer released three DLCs (like Bioware has done, at a minimum, for every game since 2008 except ME1), then you would be able to buy them all for half price (in the 50% example). Assuming they are $10 a pop. you would wind up paying $15 for DLC that would have cost you $30, making it a total of $25 spent (Pass $10 + Half Priced DLC $15 = $25), essentially saving you $5 and also making it more likely you'd play every DLC released.
Also, this applies to weapon/equipment DLC as well, with some of that being given away for free for Season Pass holders.

i remember reading a topic couple of months ago about Sony forcing online pass upon every new EA game they make. i guess times change
