So I don't own an iphone or ipod, nor do I have access to either.  I'd love to get the Jacob-related DLC out of Mass Effect Galaxy, though.  Can I just buy the game and link the purchase to my EA account?

Also the option to think it to your EA account is in the game's Extras menu, which you couldn't access without an iPhone or iPod Touch.

Just buy an iPod Touch from the official Apple shop. They'll let you return it up to two weeks after purchase, even though you'll have used it.

Maybe you should wait for the game to come out and find out if the DLC is really worth it before concocting some convoluted scheme involving buying/returning an ipod.

It's hardly convoluted. You just outlined it in four words. Buy it, return it. It's also hardly a scheme, considering there's no lying or deception involved, it's their store policy. "Why are you returning it?" "I decided I just didn't want it". Done. 14 days. And besides - who said he should do it just for some probably-not-worth-it DLC? There's also playing the game, which okay, sucks, but the story's at least interesting. It's another chapter in the ME universe and it takes maybe an hour to complete.

It's just, I've seen so many people moan about how they're totally incapable of playing this game because they have no iPod. The only way that's true is if a) you don't have the money to spare for a week, B) you don't have an Apple store near you or c) for some reason Apple's returns policy is different in your country. But then, I did have the cash spare, there's an Apple store two minutes from my work and Apple's policy is what it is. Easy, simple, with zero fuss. The whole thing, not counting travel time since that was technically to and from work on two seperate days, took maybe an hour and a half. And that includes completing the game. No big deal.

On a coincidence I happend to play it today (at a friends iPhone). To be honest it isn't really that good but I can understand way you want to play it (you won't believe what begging I had to do to be lend the iPhone - and the whole time he was sitting next to me watching... even had to wash my hands before playing).

It is somewhat entertaining but if you are only in it for the story you can read about that at the ME wiki. The gameplay is kind of bad. Sometimes it was stuttering so hard that I could have gone to the toilet and still were alive. I liked the tech and biotic powers though (even though there are only 2).

I don't know what bonus I will get in ME2 (I linked my account ingame) but I don't expect much. The backstory for Jacob and Miranda as well as the batarians was quite good actually (as a ME fan that comes as no surprise).

So if you get the chance somehow I can really recommend it to you. Just don't expect very much. Just about 1-2 hours light gameplay and medium story.

I just recently downloaded and completed Galaxy (somewhat belatedly), and have to say I was quite happy with what I got for my money's worth on the game.

Sure, it's just a very short game with less than revolutionary gameplay, but that's just perfectly fine for a mini-game to play on a portable platform that's not really a gaming platform in the first place, imo.
I had great fun playing it on my 30-min commute to and from university each day for a few days, it gave me something to look forward to when leaving the house in the morning and shuffling towards the train station in the freezing cold...

Also, I absolutely adored the comic-esque graphics on the characters and the cut-scenes, and the variety of dialogue options too was nice for such a small installment of ME - I actually found myself shutting down the game mid-dialogue and "re-loading" as I would in a PC game, just to see the different reactions to all possible dialogue choices and ultimately go with the one I really wanted Jacob to take.
I'm such a nerd, I know, seeing as paragon/renegade answers et all didn't really have any long-term impact here...

Playing ME Galaxy even changed my outlook on the featured characters significantly - from what I'd seen and heard so far, I thought I would probably dislike Miranda and be less than interested in Jacob in ME 2.
After being able to play one of them and interact with the other, I'm feeling fondness and admiration towards Miranda's smooth operator/tough chick attitude, and I'm actively considering dating Jacob with one of my ME 2 Sheps... ^_^
So, long story short, I do recommend it for the playing experience as well as the possible reward :P

Don't have it either, I guess I'll live. I could... but I don't want to buy it.

It really depends on what it is.

It's really not gonna make that big of a difference I'm guessing. It was fun for like 5 bucks just for a few hours of gameplay. The levels got a little repetitive, but I got a few chuckles out of it.
