that was my least favorite aspect of ME1 was that if you where a soldier, you where a soldier and thats that.
i recall reading that....

I believe it's been stated that you will have the ability to completely remake any Shep you import.

If you have already played through ME2 once, and are starting a new game+, I don't believe you can change your character. Someone might be able to find confirmation on this one way or the other.

I don't think new game plus will work like that because it leaves having multiple shepherds useless, therefore decreasing replayability.
