Paladin is bad and overrated. Wraith is good and have good mods. Talon is good and have other good mods. So Wraith and Talon is tied as they are diffrent things.

But are they really? Both are mid to long distance weapons. Yes, Wraith may do a bit more damage, but Talon is lighter, has more shots, has power mod and it's just as good against shields and barriers.

Wraith doesn't do a bit more damage, it does significantly more damage. Talon in many ways is like a Wraith, however the Wraith still hits harder. Talon may have more shots, but those shots tend to be more inaccurate, it also loses significant damage at range. Both are good, but the Talon really can't play in the Wraiths ideal range, outside of that range its accuracy leaves much to be desired.

If you looked at the previous posts with the comparison you'll see that Wraith does more damage against health and armor, but almost the same damage against barriers  and shields as the Talon. But since Talon has more shots it can easily keep up with Wraith vs armor and health damage because you don't have to reload as often and significantly more damage vs protections.

Talon does have benefits true, but here's how I see it.  The Talon always has a sacrifice to make in some regard.  Power mod + high damage barrel, worse armor damage.  Peircing plus damage barrel, worse accuracy. Peircing plus power mod, worse damage, worse accuracy.   The Wraith with a smart choke and HVB  maintains long range damage and accuracy the Talon tends to lose.  The Talon is lighter and therefore better for casters, but IMO within the Wraiths intended range the Talon has a slower kill speed. It has more shots sure, but few enemies will survive a Wraith 2-shot.    It's like a double edged sword with the Talon, it has more shots and can fire a tab faster, but by firing faster your accuracy goes to crap,   They are similar but damage to damage the Wraith still wins, no matter what the barrel.

Having more shots in the clip isn't that big of a deal. The GPR has 5x the amount of shots of the Harrier.

Also consider that if you 1 shot the target, which the Wraith is more likely to do to trash mobs at distance, then it doesn't really matter how many shots the other guy has.

Most of the Wraith's advantage comes from being able to knock out trash mobs at a longer distance than the Talon due to accuracy and damage per shot.

Depends on the character and the mods.

If you stick with the build OP put up, Talon is ahead in more situations since you can one-shot the vast majority of "mobs" and you get to potentially one-shot 4 of them before you reload.  And since ROF is higher than Wraith, you can kill mobs faster than with the Wraith at more typical engagement ranges.

Or if you go with a Turian Sentinel, you can "theoretically" one-shot all gold humanoid targets with the Wraith, but you can one-shot all but the Dragoon and Possessed Captain with the Talon (actually you can theoretically get the Dragoon as well if you go for Targeting / Vulnerability VI).

The Wraith's ROF and subsequently the screwy reload delay is a disadvantage over the Talon at close range.  Of course you are correct that theoretically you should be able to kill mobs at longer range with Wraith rather than Talon.  Or if you plan to take gear for melee or armored compartments, you might be better off with Wraith.

Op mentioned the weight difference, but that doesn't matter all that much... 0.9 vs 0.6.  That isn't going to break the game.  Especially not on GI.

But here is the thing Talon VS Wraith gap is very small and on some classes - invisible. Talon VS Paladin gap is huge to Talon's favor.

All 3 are UR's. So it's messed up in my opinion.

The problem is that this is a Wraith vs Talon discussion, not a Wraith vs Talon on the GI one =P

Talon wins on accuracy boosters because it negates the main advantage of the Wraith while Wraith wins on any melee kit because Omni-Blade.

Even without the Power Magnifier, I would even argue that the Wraith wins on the Novaguard or Smashguard because of how much time you end up spending in a casting animation making the superior rate of fire of the Talon meaningless, and the Wraith hits significantly harder shot for shot.

Yup.  And I feel the same way.

There's something about the Talon which I don't like.  Couldn't quite put my finger on it whether it's the slow refire rate, or recoil when zoomed.  Whichever.  I prefer accuracy. :)

For me, it's the sound. It's just... no...

The spread on the Talon is so blasted inconsistent that unless I'm up close or using an accuracy boosting class I have a hard time relying on it. The Wraith was my favorite UR way back when the game came out and it remains my favorite...not to mention it has been buffed like crazy since then.

That huge ass bloom whenever I fire the talon annoys the crap outta me, especially because of its slow ass recenter speed.

Agreed.

What the hell is with that anyway? Does it represent thermal expansion of the barrel with nearly immediate cooling, does it have a self adjusting smart choke that is inferior to shotgun smart chokes? Why does the Executioner have a hammer?

It's an interesting question. I'd probably take the Lancer, but the Wraith would likely be my second or third choice.

You would abandon Drells just like that?

Talon is my standard caster class pistol/shotgun mainly because it can blow the head off of a gold phantom with one shot which is nice.
The wraith is ok but it fires to slowly for my taste and offers little to no advantage over the Talon as far as I can see.
The paladin would be better if it had a real magazine,3xshots is just silly.

I prefer Turians.

Drells don't even need weapons though

I have to agree... Sure the Talon is good, but it feels clumsy to me.  Headshots with the Paladin are much more satisfying... My days of using a weapon for it's DPS are long gone, and now I play for enjoyment.

Which is why I mentioned Turian Sentinel, and didn't spend the whole post dwelling on GI.

That's true.  The vast majority of characters aren't either.

I am not so sure about on Novaguard.  Maybe on Phoenix.  Probably not on most of the other Vanguards, save Batarian (bc melee).

The Talon w/ Heavy Barrel edges the Wraith w/ barrel vs Shields and Barriers, so Wraith isn't always hitting harder.  It hits harder v the health on mooks, and against armor.  And basically any time you are within the Talon's one-shot envelope you have an advantage over someone with a Wraith since you are killing mooks nearly twice as fast.

And just to add, I don't care for the Talon and do not like defending it.

They're basically equal shot for shot on the Novaguard, but only against shields/barriers. The Wraith hits harder against armoured targets while Nova/Biotic Charge will make short work of barriers.

The Wraith is a gold plated shotgun it wins in style, and isn't that all that really matters

The Talon was the very first Ultra-Rare I maxed out way back last summer. I got pretty lucky with getting arguably the best gun while mostly avoiding the RNG store roulette. It's simply a beast of a weapon with many pros and a very minuscule con.

I don't like the way the talon feels
and I'm a big fan of both the paladin and the wraith
but the talon is better than both of them
