I know I just got through saying that I dont play conversions but has anybody ever thought about recreating Mass Effect inside NWN? I only think of it because of all the mass effect advertisement on either side of my screen. Just interested out of curiosity.

I had done some star wars stuff like walking at-st´s, blaster´s that stoot lasers instead of beams and it was in a pretty advanced stage but the more i tested and tested out new things the more i found out the aurora engine is not done for such a setting. I dont know how good d20 really is but i´m sure they must have had some hard time getting modern day like things to work.

That from my technical persperctive but back to your mass effect mod... why would you do that?

well mass effect has less vehicle scenes and I'm prety sure the guns are projectile based so it should be easyer than starwars. Shame the starwars one didnt work though.
I dont realy know what I'd do with it once It was made. Might be more fun as a new story in the same setting and even more fun if I get to play as a Volus.
Yes If someone does this they MUST have Volus as a playable race. I AM THE VOLUS LORD!

A total conversion back in the early halflife era (as an example) with really good/ semi professional and dedicated Teams took around a year to make lets say (thats what i recall when everything worked out well without the inner fights and break ups). And these versions were never finished and needed further updates...

And the era of dedicated mod Teams is gone i believe and most people think something like DOD came out of nowwhere. We even had the same here with nwn. The only Team realy tried a TC in NWN was CODI. Everything they did followed a whole different design approach. How that ended we all know... but they did fantastic stuff!
The other Team DLA was a really really huge Team with some professionals and how long they worked on their project i dont know... but almost anyone of them left the scene right after the release! Or else my memories are wrong and now i can understand the motive for it. If you worked for so long on something that dedicated you may come to the point of burnout with no recovery....

But something about vehicles in nwn...they suck. I never got anything close to create a vehicle that doesnt rotates like a gunship or a dragonfly when in a turn. You cant define any kind of different physics other than rotate exactly on X or Y  origin and move from there on...it just looks ridiculous and you got lost in exactly these details for hours figuring out how that has to work so you can say you waste 3 days of your private time just thinking about how the eff this can look good.

I'm not expecting a total conversion to come out of this idea. to be honest, the most I expect, if anything, is the races from the game but it was just an idea thrown in the air.

I'm disapointed about the vehicles though because I was going to try to make a set of carts pulled by different animals to put in my mod. I guess that clears up some spots for more hostile monsters.

You should try and contact some of the Star Wars PW projects. All of these topics have already been addressed there. The vehicle stuff was intelligently managed I think. Keeping vehicles parked, or moving in straight lines, used sparsely in movement-controlled cut-scenes... all of these help to create ambiance without focusing on the evident limitations. Besides, you don't really need them to create a conversion of Mass Effect.

However, I do believe this is a pipe-dream. It would be a massive undertaking. As for what little you expect to get out of it, namely the races and weapons... I think someone had already created a few Mass Effect things here and there. Check the D20 project, and if not, I remember seeing some pulse rifles or something like that in the Vault. Any Star Wars project, any Halo as well, could work towards creating the right setting for this.
