Hey guys,
I'm finishing my second ME1 playthrough, and there is one decision to be made: whether I let the Council live.
Now, for my renegade Shep it makes sense to let them die. However, I am worried about the following story. Are the replacement characters interesting? Are there any interesting twists in the story with the new Council, that make it worth the try? (please no thorough spoilers) I admit, I kinda liked the personalities of the old Council, even if my Shepard hated their guts.
Thanks.
Letting the Council die in ME1, need advice

You only meet the new council in ME3 (new Salarian, new Asari, and new Turian). There is not really enough different dialogue to make a difference.
I think letting them die nets you more War Assets overall in ME3, but I think the number is small enough to be negligible.
My advice: If you have more than one playthrough, I recommend making some different choices just to see what the differences are in later games. Most of the changes tend to be minor, such as character cameos and extra/different lines of dialogue.
If you have multiple playthroughs, recommend have Ashley alive in one and Kaidan alive in the other, as this affects available bonus powers to unlock in ME3 (Ashley and Kaidan have different powers available to Shepard to unlock as bonus powers).
In my opinion, the only replacement character worth mentioning is Padok Wiks, but you only get him if Mordin dies in ME2.

If you let the council die Alien races on the citadel will be slightly more hostile towards humans in ME2, only remarkable difference i ever noticed having gone both ways in ME2 and ME3.
As a renegade Shepard you also get a all human council in that position, where as the paragon path gets a new one with turians, salarians and asari in addition to the 4th spot on the council being humans.

Well, I just lost the Salarian 3rd fleet because I let the Council die. That's 125 war assets. This was partially offset by getting the STG Task Force because Thane survived and stopped the assassination. But that is only 70 war assets. And if Thane had died, I would have ended up with nothing. Looking over the possible permutations for Salarian support it looks like you could end up with zero war assets from the Salarians.

With a renegade that lets the council die you get a "human dominated" council, which is kind of retconned in ME3. You might want to avoid that. (meaning if you want to meet the new councilors, who do the same stuff but have noticably different personalities, you should kill off the council on a mostly paragon character).
I don't think you can get 0 Salarian points. If Kirrahe lives, you get the reward for saving the councilor, if he died, you strangely get a better STG war asset (I suspect this is a bug, but you get it).
If you let the council die, the human fleets get stronger, but you get a worse Salarian reward in ME3 and lose the Destiny Ascension. Only you lost Kirrahe and Thane letting them die becomes the better deal.cap and gown wrote...

On my paragade character I just let them die. I like the new ones better except for the asari councilor. The new turian councilor is nicer and has a sexier voice, and the new salarian councilor is female and voiced by Grey Delisle, and she likes you for getting her the job lol.
