I have always found it odd that when you play as a Mage they carry knives with them but you can never use them. I know they want the Mage class to be strictly magic but is it weird to think that a Mage could be a great combat fighter too. I enjoy playing as a Mage, but could we get a chance to have some sort of magic blade? Maybe do a certain quest or get training from a specific character?  Always having to run to a new spot when enemies get too close or losing a fight because other party members fall is getting boring.

Am I the only one who feels this way?:?

Why do you need a knife when your mage now uses their stave like a polearm or combat spear? Mages can melee just fine without a knife now, unlike in Origins where it was indeed a problem.

Even with their staff it does very little damage. If surrounded by too many enemies its useless.

Mages really need to learn to use their staffs better, like gandalf does.

Of course it does little melee damage, you're supposed to sit back and cast. Sounds to me like you just want mages to be awesome at everything, have your cake and it eat it too with having both awesome magic and awesome melee. There needs to be class balance, we don't need mages becoming the end-all be-all they were in Origins.

If they did I would be happier. Right now if an enemy get to close you have to run away like a coward I hate that. If there can be better training with the physical side of a staff it would make playing even more fun.

Weird, I'm playing through DA2 right now (middle of the second act), and I don't really run away at all. I typically stand my ground, and I have no problems using melee. You really need to specialize in primal, it sounds like your rock armor isn't doing its job.

I'm not saying they have to be almighty but to not be able to do any physical damage is frustrating.

You don't use runes and spirit weapons, do you? My DPS is pretty much double what it should be thanks to using spirit staves and always making sure they have a run slot to add more damage runes into. My 35 spirit damage Allure's Crook with a physical damage rune and a spirit damage rune is QUITE FAST at killing even on hard mode (my preferred difficulty).

The Murder Knife slumbers in hammerspace until it is needed.

But in DA2 your mages starts physically hitting an enemy with their staff if they get in melee distance, so I dunno what you are going on about.

Yes but it does almost no damage when they do it. You could hit them a million times and not do a thing.

Well then you're doing it wrong. For one thing, you should be doing as much damage with melee as you do with the stave bolts (or whatever the ranged basic attack is called).

I like the idea of multiple telekinetic murder knives personally. Like Sakuya or Dio Brando. Steamroller optional.

Possibly.....I always seem to have problems when I'm surrounded by enemies. I have to wait for my spells to cool down. And when I have to physically hit with my staff it just seems to be a spanking stick than an actual weapon ( seems to just be me though)

Then let's just get rid of classes and just make you into a physical god who can do everything and anything. Much more hardcore and fun, right?

they can add some new talents to the other classes as well. Wielding a magical sword for a warrior wouldn't be so bad would it? They could all use improvements.

Physically hitting people with the staff and using the bolts deal the same amount of damage. Mages are really over-powered as it is, get over it or choose Warrior/Rogue next time.

Well, they added the Ebony Warrior for that.

And you're not a physical god, you're a mini dragon.

Most fantasy setting give a in-lore reason for an inability to use weapons or armor. Usually because it interferes with movement or magical flow or you need a wand because reasons kinda thing. DA's reason was Circle mages weren't allowed to learn any kind of physical violence. Which made total sense. Now that the Circle's are a thing of the past I'd expect to see warrior mages.
