You have to remember that for the better part of our evolutionary history, we ate raw flesh all the time. And we aren't extinct because of that yet.
Raw flesh, if properly dealt with in a clean enironment is not anymore unhealthy than any other type of flesh. Also, that flesh is cooled below bacteria survival thresholds unless it is about to be served. Any bacteria that reach you is the same as any other dish, cooked or no. So unless it's grossly mishandled, it's perfectly safe to eat.
And the horror stories are just that, stories. And what little truthful core they have are ALL attributed to mishandling the ingredients.
I understand if you still don't like the idea of eating raw fish, it's just not everyone's taste. But from a hygenic point of view, it's no different from any other meal you've ever had.

Also, ever saw the movie "Wasabi"?

@luna
Standard Sushi can't kill you anymore than any other dish in the world that is done incorrectly/unhygenicly. I suppose you're talking about Fugu, right?
No, but I have seen the movie "John Dies at the End", it's about a drug called Soy Sauce.
I will probably never try Fugu sushi/sashimi unless they develop an anit-toxin and I have 2 doses of it in prepared vials and a trained emergency medical specialist at my side. Tetrodotoxin would be a very unpleasant way to go indeed

Rather than make a post simply saying I love sushi, I'll link my sushi thread from half a year ago and y'all will get the idea.
Unagi/California/Philadelphia/All the sushi or bust.

I'm a tobiko kinda guy. It's just so crunchy!
Here in land-locked Alberta, our sashimi selection is kind of limited. Either that, or I've been going to all the wrong places. Sadface.

Beautiful type of food Sushi, Salmon and others.
Whenever I think of food I like I think of Roast Veal stuffed with Spinach and Mushrooms, Lung and Loin Bourguignonne and Tandoori Liver.
Some of these raw would kill me though.
