I just hope that if you choose to wear a helmet, they dont take it off during conversations. If I choose to wear a helmet, I dont want it removed thanks.
They're not, you can even choose to permanantly have your breather visor on.

There is an armor customization tool like we've never seen before, you can do MUCH more than merely toggle your helmet.

Quite. My question was, because of this new system, you get bonii for wearing a helmet. I was wondering if I could officially be wearin a helmet, but toggle its appearance off, so I don't have to see it. For example, the recon mask looks terrible, doubly so because it hides the great face expressions.
To Paraphrase Peter O'Toole: Actings all in the eyes.

I'd like to have the option to have helmets auto-off during cut-scenes.

I don't think we know yet. Personally i agree with Verenti. I'd like to get the bonuses from helmets, but if they are full-face, i wouldn't want to miss out on the facial expressions in cutscenes.

Yeah, I want people to see me in Mass Effect, but no loos it either, in Dragon Age I didn't care too much if they had kept the helmet it on, it didn't have any expression on the PC face anyway, here though they do put the expressions in.

I wouldn't want it to be permanent like in DA, though. I'd just like to have the option.

I wonder what'll happen if you go into a hostile environment or the Flotilla without a helmet as part of your regular armor. Will the game prompt you to pick one or will it just use a default helmet?
this brings more evidence to the toggle theory. we can pretty much assume that you start off with the n7 breather helm (its in the first damn cutscene, and you have to have some defeault sealed helm for harsh enviroments) and at some point shep will have to seal up his suit... but weve seen plenty of pics with shep wearing no helmet at all. im almost certain helms will be toggleable, because a) i highly doubt yuo can leave armor sections unequipped, and at some point we do have to pick up a helmet, and

Yes, there is an option to remove your helmet.Verenti wrote...
Anyone know if we can toggle whether the helmet is viewed or not? Fashion dictatates that one doesn't wear one, but you clearly get benefits for wearing one.

I found it disapointing that in ME1 you had the option to remove it in gameplay at any point accept in space. Yet that option is lost in ME2 and you're only able to do so no where else, but in your living quarters.

Yes they are appealing to the eye..
But is drinking and kissing through a helmet a work of art?
No it simply is not...You can't tell me that masking facial expressions through an inability to toggle helmets is a work of art.
I believe it is lazy programming, not art.
So I must finish this off by saying I believe it's a smudge on a work of art known as Mass Effect.
P.S this is not intended to flame, just merely stating opinion.

My opinion is that it degrades the cinematic experience when there are actions involving the face and you are wearing a helmet.. Like drinking a glass of alcohol or kissing.. its just strange and at times funny. Its not a huge complaint but I was hoping for something similar to a helmet toggle option when you are talking/interacting with the npcs. Another option could just be to toggle it off completely while at the same time, reaping the helmet benefits..
My last suggestion is may be a little more time consuming to program into the game, it involves having helmet animations such as your helmet mouth opening up with doing mouth interactions, or make it like ME1 where you can have the helmet throughout the game but bottomless.
This is my first post, and I hope more people want this option..

Is it in the menus somewhere?
I dont mind it for cut scenes. In the first game I wore it in a combat situation and outside of combat I toggled it off.
Is that available in this game?
