Destroying a mass relay to save the galaxy. Leaving out that little part.
And the asari kept the Prothean beacon hidden so that the most peaceful and neutral species on the Council would have a technological advantage that would permit them to keep the galaxy united as a collection of separate but equal states rather than a single empire (ala the Protheans).
As I've brought up before, the asari could probably rule the entire galaxy with a biotic fist if they wanted to - the whole point is that they don't, and strive for peaceful coexistence. That's the whole point of Liara's arguments with Javik!Steelcan wrote...
I never said humanity was better, but the asari hoarded prothean tech, and charge others who do with war crimes... Fair?
I don't recall where it's stated that hoarding Prothean tech is a war crime. A crime, yes - but 'war crime' is very different from 'crime'.
Also, I'd love to see the asari go up against the turians or krogan. The krogan will finally get Lusia:devil:

Rebellious subjects, enemies to peace,
Profaners of this neighbor-stained steel—
Will they not hear? What, ho! you men, you beasts
That quench the fire of your pernicious rage
With purple fountains issuing from your veins,
On pain of torture, from those bloody hands
hrow your mistemper'd trolling to the ground,
And hear the sentence of your moved prince.
Three flame wars, bred of an airy word,
By thee, old Steelcan, and Hellbird,
Have thrice disturb'd the quiet of our threads,
And made BSN's ancient citizens
Cast by their grave beseeming ornaments,
To wield old partisans, in hands as old,
Canker'd with peace, to part your canker'd hate;
If ever you disturb our threads again,
Your accounts shall pay the forfeit of the peace.
For this time, all the rest depart away:
You Mirimancers; shall go along with me:
And, Liaramancers, come you this afternoon,
To know our further pleasure in this case,
To old Free-town, our common judgment-place.
Once more, on pain of ban, all men depart.

Actually the Asari did quite well against the Krogan, from the small glimpses we get of the history of the Krogan Rebellions. At Lusia the Krogan invading force was eventually forced to surrender. The Krogan also attacked the Asari world of Cyone several times and were continually repulsed by the defenders, before finally having their supply lines cut by the Asari fleet and driven out of the system.
The description of the Serrice Guard war asset also describes a small combat action where 5 Asari commandos trouce a group of Blood Pack mercs, causing 100 casualties.
A war between the Turians and Asari likely would not end well for the Asar Republics however. The Turians field easily the most dominant military force in the galaxy.

Too oblivious to understand how others experience things, no matter how well intentioned.
Their Council made sure that the galaxy was at peace and stability for over a thousand years before humanity showed up. Compared to human history...I think "peaceful coexistence" works quite well with the Asari in charge.

So? Numbers win war. And we also know that Battlemasters such as Wrex are vastly superior to other species soldiers (according to the codex, worth 10 of another species)Han Shot First wrote...

And Tali is quite vicious against Liara, if you dump her for Liara.
Tali makes a catty remark if you take both of them on the Geth dreadnought. Liara is just standing her ground. The Ashley/Tali banter is even worse. ("Thanks. It's so nice of you to actually help Shepard this time.")
I have little sympathy for Tali in these scenarios.
Actually, the Ashely/Tali one you speak of happens if you havn't picked which you will romance yet. Also, in that case Ashley is the first one to make a snarky remark.
The Liara/Tali one where neither has been chosen over the other has Liara going "lol, I know when masturbate". So I think both get their share of catty remarks.

Battlemasters are canonically very rare though.
I'm definitely not denying that quantity can be a quality all of its own, just that from the small glimpses we get the Asari military appeared to have been qualitatively superior to the Krogan. They defeated them in both campaigns, and at Cyone repulsed them multiple times. Of course without the Turians and the genophage the Krogan likely would have won, just be virtue of having vast manpower reserves (and presumably a large fleet at that time)
If I I can go Godwin for a minute, the Asari would be Finland to the Krogan Soviets.

Ultimately, the Council exists to maintain galactic stability in citadel space ("Citadel space is an unofficial term referring to any region of space controlled by a species that acknowledge the authority of the Citadel Council").
They've done it for thousand of years. They don't conquer other races. They don't force other races to open an embassy on the citadel. And if you don't like how the council handles things? Close your embassy! The batarians don't acknowledge the authority of the Citadel Council and nobody controls them, they can build as many dreadnoughts as they want, etc.
Yes, there are worse things.

I'd say actually make the Asari the Wehrmacht. Deadly at first, then loses to manpower, but still dangerous even while retreating.Han Shot First wrote...

I'm not angry about people not liking asari - but I feel it is warranted to point out when people just hate asari for being popular and try to justify it by saying they're bad, when they themselves support Cerberus doing the same "bad" things. That doesn't make me angry, it makes me disappointed.

No, but claiming that Miranda is a "perfect woman" and that she wouldn't be one if she wasn't white, is.
I'm not going to cut some racist **** slack because they try to sugarcoat their toxic beliefs, mate. The ignorant, hateful principles like that being accepted as someone's "opinion" is something that does make me angry.
I'm a white guy living in a prominently non-white neighbourhood with an immigrant girlfriend. I'm not inclined to be forgiving on this subject.
