Depending where the story goes, LI's can have less or more content if there is a compelling reason for it. I'd find it contrived, and unrealistic check marking to make them all equal. I don't think the romance concept ever intended that.

Exactly. Jaheira, Bastila, Dawn Star, Morrigan...Bioware's always puts more romantic spotlight on at least one (female) character. Yeah, Liara is "the one" in the Mass Effect series.

That's kind of the nature of the beast. You're never going to have all characters getting the same level of plot relevance. Come Mass Effect 4 its just about guaranteed that at least one of the LIs will get a bit more of the spotlight than the others.

Aren't Liara and Garrus the most popular squadmates?

I'd too give more content to the most popular squadmates, is the most logical thing to do.

No one has a problem with your "favored" choices. I hope not at least.

It's not that she's my favored LI, it's that the game's set up to feature her as the main LI.  It seems like some people have a big problem with that, as this thread's last few pages clearly show.

I never felt like DA:O was pushing Morrigan while I was romancing Leliana, but if I romanced Morrigan she had more content.  That is ok.

Romancing Miranda, but having Liara butt in every ten minutes is another matter.

True.

According to most polls, Liara is in fact the most popular romance, with Tali usually in second. However, what bothers most people, is the way she was forced on everyone. Even if you don't romance her and pick every possible rude answer throughout the series, she's your best friend.

Yeah it would make more sense for Garrus or Tali to be the best friend not Liara the stalker.

I'm currently in my intial playthrough of DA:O right now so I can't really say much about it, but from what I've seen so far I can see how Morrigan is always there similar to Liara. It just seems that Liara's scenes appear to be designed with her as a LI in mind, then the actual LI bits of dialogue taken out, whereas Morrigan is the opposite.

Why would it matter either way which romances or characters are more popular? Something being popular is neither an indicator of quality or a lack thereof.

That's a shame. They're just going to have to find a way to live with that.

All stories have characters. You aren't going to like every character in every story. That's really the end of it.

Stripping every friendly action from the main story because players might not like a certain character is absurd and would be a terrible shame.

Of course theres not supposed to be a main LI. Thats the point of all the LI options.

That's a ridiculous thing to say. Why shouldn't there be?

The choice is always free, but there's no reason not to have some characters be more developed than others, romance or no romance.

Sometimes a character has more potential, sometimes the writer is more interested in a character, sometimes they play a bigger part in the story, sometimes they have more interesting and dynamic interactions with the protagonist, etc.

Trying to add content to Miranda to make her "equal" to Liara would most likely end up forced, cluttered and detrimental to the character and the story pacing.

According to the official Bioware statistics, Liara is the most popular squadmate.

As for the romances...we only have surveys and polls. And according to the largest surveys, Liara is by far the most popular love interest. For example...

Go play DA:O and see choices and character interaction done right.  Consistently mean to someone?  They up and leave.

Yes.

Bioware released statistics in March:

Liara and Garrus came in at 24%

Tali was a lowly 7.8%

Morrigan is not "always there"; you can, if you wish, kick her out of your party at any time.

Well, if I knew something is popular and I know it will get me sales, I'd put more focus on it, regardless if that quality needs to be there or that "development" for the sake of development.

But people will prefer to see more content of Liara or Garrus than of Jacob, lol.

Morrigan is such an antisocial, rugged individualist that even if she was the default romance, she still wouldn't care to initiate many conversations or show her presence, unless asked. There's a big difference in how she is as a person compared to Liara.

Just pointing out that while Liara has a larger fanbase, that does not excuse butting her romance into other playthroughs who are not romancing her.

The official stats are a joke, they shouldn't be used for reference. They include 1 playthrough from player A and 10 playthroughs from player B. Check every poll, every survey from 3rd party sites and you'll find completely different results.

I'm certain that's influenced by the fact that she's only in the last 1/3rd of the game, and dies if you play a mindless paragon without an import. I was surprised (well, more disappointed than surprised) to see how many didn't have Wrex but cured the genophage anyway.
