Ignoring the condescension in this very post, we'll put it this way. David's points are typically rejected by everyone but him. What does that say about his points and arguments?

I can't actually comment on this because I haven't payed enough attention to see whether or not he makes good points. Though majority means nothing when it comes to whether or not your point, or argument, is good by the way. Saying "Me and these six people disagree with you" isn't a point or a good defense. If someone does this just ask them to present an actual argument other than "No you're stupid" or "I don't need to we have the majority".

Basically, just do everything to keep it as constructive as possible. I can see that post directly above mine, the correct response is "Possibly. Now (continue whatever this debate originally about)." If more people do it we'll have less insults, less pages of people jumping on said insulter, and more posts with substance and actual well thought out arguments.

*streaks through the thread*

I'm still ok with everything! It wasn't great, but it wasn't bad! And it certainly wasn't the "Benji Gets Hit By a Truck Repeatedly" full length movie some people make it out to be! Similarly, it wasn't "A Complex Discourse on the Reliability of Individual Choice, Consequences, and its Applications to a Futuristic Setting" by five doctorates and one masters' student who did all the painful research.

So there. I am firmly in the meh plus camp.

They're very asinine points. You're entitled to them, but they're in no way objective, nor is there any sense to them beyond malice and contrarianism from my perspective.

Wiser words have rarely been spoken here.  Which, of course, means they'll probably be ignored.  Which is sad, because Robo is 100% correct.

People say offensive things mainly for 3 reasons.
1) Ignorance; they don't know they're being offensive.  No reason to get angry about it, either explain it politely or move on.
2) They're TRYING to make you mad; well, only an idiot would let someone manipulate them in such a way, so don't be an idiot.  Don't get mad.
3) They geninely could not care less about how you feel about what they say.  Well, heck, why get mad then?  They're not going to care and it'll just make you look stupid.

The epilogues aren't 'garbage'. they're meant to tell the gamer what happens next.  Not the characters, the gamer.  Just because YOU don't like something doesn't mean it's garbage; it simply means YOU don't like it.  If 1000 people agree with you, it means 1000 people think it's garbage.  The fact remains that there are people who DO like it.  Why you persist in insulting every person who disagrees with you by claiming they like garbage is beyond me.

Having said that, boiled down much of your post seems to be nothing more then you worrying about what other people think.  So what?  When all is said and done, this is just a stupid little game designed for people to play and have fun.  If you enjoyed yourself, buy the next one.  If you didn't, accept that you won't enjoy every game out there and avoid the next one.  Life goes on.  And STOP worrying so much about what other people think, or say, or do.  After all, if someone likes something YOU don't, it doesn't invalidate your feelings one whit.   Don't be so defensive.

You suggested I go through the game and make sense of it.  Nope.  Not going to do it.  Why?  Because IT IS A GAME.  It's not a documentary.  It's not a history of the Universe dictating what actually happened.  It's the product of a couple of flawed people (we ALL are flawed, none of us are perfect) who put their heads together and wrote stories...and like all such compilations there will be differences; characters will be written slightly differently, things will happen that may not make sense.  It's the nature of the beast, whether it be a game, a movie, or an anthology collection of books (Thieves World comes to mind, and is a great example to use if you're conversant with it).  I see movies and play games to have fun.  I'm not about to nit pick every single possible flaw of something I enjoy JUST so I can get angry.  That's what work is for.

Honestly, some of ya'll take games WAY to seriously.

Do I seriously have to state the obvious in that it is my opinion they are garbage.  That doesn't mean people aren't allowed to appreciate them nor that that's what I think of them for liking the endings.  I believe them to be garbage-apparently though that's obviously my opinion I must state it as such.  Some people like Lima Beans.  I think they taste awful and really dislike them.  Doesn't mean people that eat Lima Beans are awful and I really dislike them.  My brother likes the Matrix.  I really didn't.  I like him and he knows I think it's close to garbage.  He didn't make the movie.  So he is not offended.  He doesn't like music I like and I'm not offended at that.

And no, I don't overly worry about other's opinions on things or what their thinking is in the way you mean at all.  They have every right to them.  I point out certain things that have happened and the post you referred to was merely one on a certain item and not about the whole topic.  I do tend to like to hear others' opinions when they state them and especially when they back them up with real stuff.

My saying it is garbage is just me cutting to the point and it's what I think.  If you think otherwise then nothing I say should matter that much to you and my intent is not in any way to dissuade you from liking what you like.  But the slides show rather silly things as some sort of consequences to what happened, not real consequences.  The freaking galaxy is a mess but oh I'm so glad everyone is smiling and has rebuilt things in the space of one human lifetime (er, Jacob).  And Krogan.  As long as we have happy Krogan all's right with the galaxy.  Oh, more Krogan, great.  And still more Krogan.  Ok good.

As for your thought that I was being defensive, I was not.  I was being explicative.  I gave an example of what people said to others in the case of what is and isn't appropriate head canon.  Head canon to imagine a decent ending-allowed.  Head canon to imagine IT-not allowed.

Perhaps you should actually practice some of the sanity that you so... eloquently preach? Disregarding points because they're from a few pages back shows that you are just as guilty of what you condemn others for. Do you want to be taken seriously or not?

My understanding is posts without actual words in the response are considered spam.  Personally I find them obnoxious.

As obnoxious as quoting said images in a response?

If it's spam it'll be removed. *shrug* But I gave about as much effort in a response as the guy I quoted, so I don't feel all that bad.

Yeah dude, single images, even ones that are completely relevant to the topic at hand, will be removed and you'll probably get a 24 hour ban. It's a crap rule, but it's happened to me, so there it is.

What points?  His first paragraph is a staunch defense of his right to an opinion which was meant as a rebuttal to what I said, which is odd because I was defending the rights of others to their own opinions.  His 2nd paragraph was a decent explanation; nothing for me to debate on it as it clarified an issue.  His 3rd was basically a re-itteration of his first, but dealing with my comments on the epilogues.  I had pointed out that the epilogues show that IT theory is a bust as they show us, the player, the results of Sheps decision.  He goes on with his opinion of them.  So what?  Nothing I can debate there, he is stating that it's HIS opinion, not what he thinks is true for everyone in the game.  His final paragraph was, like his 2nd, an explanation that clarified an issue.  One that I have often...that is, people assuming you're being aggressive or deffensive when you're being explicative.

So.  I should have...what?  Argued with him on what I disagree on?  Why?  Those topics are OLD.  They're in the past.  11, 12 pages have gone by and the thread of conversation has moved on.  To rehash them would be the antithesis of what I, and Robo, have said.  It's for the same reason I didn't bother responding to Shingara's undoubtedly long response to my last rebuttal to him.  It's old news, and rehashing it not only adds nothing at all to the current topic, it only increases the BS Drama quotient of the the thread.   I have no interest in being that guy...that pedantic guy that brings everyone and everything around him down with his rage filled rants about old slieghts and perceived insults.  Guess I'm just getting old.

I do have to admit I'm curious as to what I'm 'condemning' people for.  I also find it funny that you are taking me to task for NOT fighting.  I guess you're just bored and looking for drama or something?  Sorry, I'm'a gonna disapoint ya tonight.

*editing to clarify: I said I had no interest in being that guy....not that I haven't been him in the past.  I have been; WAY more times then I wish to remember.  I've found that that guy tends to be an idiot, and I don't like being an idiot.

In all honesty though, I find the endings to be earlier a sympton then a cause of the declining quality of Mass Effect, surely the were the final insult that rendered the rest of the trilogy meaningless, and it was actually quite shocking how poorly executed it was, but ultimately, we could have seen it coming, if more of us were able to see pat the superficial layer of sensationalism in which the narrative was wrappped it was inveitsble that Mass Effect would collapse at some point.

And knowing the writers, they  would postpone this collapse til the very last moment the endings.

Here's something that I find to be a good flow of understanding gamer logic.

Some chap who is called Rev Rant on youtube

This one breaks down the idea of suicide and sacrifice being used as an end game mechanic

He's also got one on player empathy and more

Great comparison.

If I were making a game I'd rather people talk about it because of how great it is, not because of how badly I messed a huge part of it up.
