Standalone or completely new series?

 Got myself thinking.
Do you think it would be better for the next game to be a single standalone game where the developers don't have to worry about decisions that carry over to the next game in the series therefore allowing them to focus on decisions in the standalone, hopefully making one incredibly quality game.
Or would you prefer a new series which yet again carries your decisions over to subsequent games with a potentially much more watered down experience?

I ask because I'm curious what they could pull off with the Mass Effect universe if they only have to focus on a single game, could it be better? I understand the we'd have had less time to connect with our new character though so they'd have to pull out all the stops to make us like our new protagonist.

I'd still love a brand new series of games though, not against it.

I definately want a new trilogy with decisions that carries over. That i think, is one of the main reasonswhy i love shepard and all the companions so much..it really makes the connection complete, and the will to play all 3 games several times. Dragon age on the other hand, the change of protagonist, story, everything, makes me "connect" alot less with the stories and the characters, since u only "use" them for such a short time.

I think something in the middle might be the best option so its like a movie franchise or book series, so the protagonist stays the same and elements from the game serve to build the world, but each one is completely independent of the previous game. That way you don't have to play the previous games (like what they were saying with Mass Effect 2 or 3), but it helps build the atmosphere of the world and hopefully that will also help reduce the expectations of major decisions making an impact on future games as well.

I'd prefer a new trilogy. Bioware have had the save import system in ME1-3 already so they would have been able to see what worked and what didn't work so well and improve on it in a new trilogy.

Standalone. I don't trust them to handle a trilogy.

I can see them making a new trilogy but there will also be standalone titles released.

Personally I would not be surprised to see RTS or FPS games set in the universe being released.

Standalone. Mass Effect series without Shepard would be like Dragonball without Goku.

And even as bad as GT was, Toriyama didn't have the balls to do it there.

I'd prefer a new trilogy, with a new protagonist, new companions, new story (hopefully no unbeatable Nemesis this time which can only be defeated through plot-device means).
But the same galaxy, same epicness and immersion should all be possible.

However in relation with migrating saves to the next chapter, it might be wise to use less variables, so that they can have the choices you DID make have a bigger impact in the last game of the trilogy.
Maybe less companions in total than the 19 (or 20 if you count Morinth as separate) so they can focus on making the ones you do get more interesting and three dimensional, since a lot of them come off really bland, especially in ME 3.
But then again the amount of potential squadmates in ME2 is ridiculous.

And ofcourse an option besides the new 'main' Mass Effect-like trilogy, to have spin-off games which would be better as standalone titles, which like mentioned above, can be RTS or FPS as well, maybe developed by a different studio.

I just hope they don't COD/AC it, and release a new title every year though...
