What is the point of Concusive Shot? (for a soldier)

Just started up a soldier. I am totally baffled about having concusive shot as one of my potential powers. I have used it for squadmates, such as Garrus. But why would I want to use it myself? It seems to me every second spent cooling down from CS is a second not using adrenaline rush or cooling down from adrenaline rush. Why would I spend even one point in this power? What am I missing?

It is a combination crowd-control and anti-barrier power than does not do that good of a job at either. It has too long a cooldown for good crowd-control, and it is too weak/the barrier multiplier is too small to properly deal with barriers.

Plus, Adrenaline Rush is too powerful to ignore, especially since it has a 3-second cooldown at rank 3. Concussive Shot has long since recognized as a terrible power in ME2 and should be ignored. It is basically a power you can sink a single point into if you do not want to put that point into a bonus power.

On veteran or below, it is at least an acceptable husk killer.

For a husk mission like the Reaper, I go with Slam. Shorter cooldown.

If ARush had a longer CD and Concussive Shot had a shorter one, it would be more useful (sort of why it is a little more useful in ME3).

I don't know if was designed the way it was just so Soldier could have something that did extra damage to Barriers, but I bet that is it (even though that is of dubious value relative to gun + Arush damage).

True. But some people dislike biotic bonus powers on non-biotic classes. Though I guess Neural shock does the same job. But if you go with a different power for some reasons, CS isn't completly useless.

Concusive Shot acts like throw vs ragdolled enemies such as those effected by pull.

It's my favorite ability for ME3...though you can drastically lower it's recharge in that game.

Not only can you lower the recharge time, you can actually reduce it to zero in ME3 if you take the proper evolution on adrenaline rush at rank 6.

I find it's best use for me is in conjunction with singularity and lift, to push guys off cliffs. Or as a straight up push if an enemy is close to a ledge and down to health.
It's a more useful ability in insanity mode, where taking someone out of the fight for several seconds is a welcome aid, and you're frantically using abilities just to delay/stall enemies.

I agree with MoonSpot. Also, try Cryo ammo. A Target doesn't need to be frozen solid to receive extra damage from CD. Mechs for instance. It is a solid skill for those who know how to use it and play on insanity where ammo is harder to come by.

Adrenaline Rush spam is more useful to the Soldier on Insanity compared with using Concussive Shot at all.

If you are concerned with ammo, Adrenaline Rush gives you a 100% damage bonus, and the time dilation should make it easier for you to land every shot. Your ammo efficiency is much higher than any other class, and you have more weapons to boot.

CS isn't worthwhile on Shepard in ME2. A Soldier Shep is better off with something faster like Slam or NS for CC or just straight up ARush spamming for DPS.

I've sometimes used squad mate CS as a poor man's substitute for warp when finishing a pulled target. That's the limit of my experience with it.
