Perhaps the devs could just put Arnold Swartzenagher(sp?) in the game. With a minigun. And a tumor.

No, he doesn't. Some players are whiny, however, and sure do cry a lot whenever any character dares to express a thought contrary to their own or maybe, I don't know, expresses an emotion. I think this says more about their shallowness than Alistair's whininess.darkshadow136 wrote...

Good point he is more thoughtful, and you sure can't beat his sense of humor. He has more than anyone else in the group.

Oh no you don't!
You know damn well he implies you should take a certain action at redcliffe, then grills you for doing it!
You are the leader, Alistair gave you control, you don't have to listen to him, you do what you want. But of course that is his family...what is so wrong about men showing emotions and having feelings and actually being a REAL human being..??? Sten makes me want to slap someone...I don't even think Chuck Norris is as bad as Sten, Chuck Norris shows emotions and not just pissed off either....

I had to give the sap a load of toys for him to play with to repair the damage.

Next time we put in a male lead, we will make sure to make him the manliest and most stoic creature you could possibly imagine. Just for you. He will be so manly he will suck the body hair right off of John Wayne and make Chuck Norris weep with envy. He will never show a single emotion, not even at his grandmother's funeral, and will never utter a single complaint about your actions... he will simply reach out of the game, slap you across the face and then take over the party.
The rest of the party won't mind, and neither will you... because he will be that awesome. Deep down inside you will resent him, and resent the fact that every NPC in every town the party enters falls in love with him and not with you. But that part of you also knows he deserves that love. Even needs it.
I am certain there is not a single fault that you or anyone could find with such a character.
Is that based on Sloth of Dooms character?
Oh no! Is SoD gonna go after David with a plaigarism suit?
Doomie, you leave David alone!
Also - looks like someone struck a nerve. Not that I disagree with Mr. Gaider's response. Not in the least.

You did something to his family, people he cares for and what do you expect? Him to praise you and love you? Heck, you did anything to my family, you'd be lucky that you are even STILL standing...

You gotta be kidding me man. How were they supposed to write his reaction to that in the game? If anything I thought he took it very well.
Do you go to funerals and laugh at everybody and call them whiny crybabies?

Of course some people are going to expect that. If they're shallow and not particularly paying attention. I mean, really, the amount of "Me! Me! Me!!" that some players exhibit it's incredibly ironic that they would actually come here and call someone else whiny.Dahelia wrote...

And seeing as we've moved onto spoilers, I'm moving this over to the spoiler forum.

Basically, he's not on board with the 'any means necessary' philosophy of the Grey Wardens. He's got some fanciful idea of these great heroes, doing heroic things for completely good reasons leaving only happiness and bunnies in their wake. He needs a good, old-fashioned slap across the face and a wake-up call.

It was his idea but if you continue, he does realize there IS other ways on saving his family...it is not good revenge to hurt his own family, someone who cared for him...even if someone was mean to him and everything else, he cares. Men are far from manly, they may act it but they aren't manly...I think Alistair is a great character just like Leliana and Morrigan...I think the way he was written is how a man acts behind closed doors. I highly doubt you would laugh at your own family and laugh at their funerals if they passed away. There is just...I don't know...people just think emotions are weak and make you whinny. In all reality not showing emotions makes you weak.

Well I do recall Alistair himself saying that he is whiney :innocent:
My problem with Alistair was when you-know-where he reacts you-know-how because you you-know-what you-know-who.
And I remember your explanation and always understood his reaction. Still I felt he should have you-know-what for the you-know-what with the you-know-who you-know-where.
Then again, since you can harden him and get a slightly different reaction, I feel far less disappointed.
The thing though is, when Alistair shows some of his "whiney" emotions, I always seem to think of Leiliana and her backstory and then I would like nothing more than to say "Alistair, stop acting so silly, be nice to L so she trusts you as well and hear her story, after that we'll continue talking."

Overall what sealed his doom as a bad character (In my opinion) is what he does at a certain event later in the game. He just throws a tantrum and whines and everything. Don't get me wrong, this is just some nickpick stuff about Alistair I really love all the other characters.

Guy expressing emotion = p*ssy. It's the man-code!
Seriously though, I thought that Alistair was a pretty interesting character. Neither the dazzling, unicorn-riding fairy tale prince nor the scheming, power hungry maniac that you usually see in the role of the dispossessed heir to the throne.

This shows throughout the rest of the game, when you're forced between 2 difficult choices in Redcliffe and attempting to recruit/punish Loghain at the Landsmeet.
The guy is just a naieve shambles of what a Grey Warden really is. Its like he's got this fanciful idea (not unlike Cailan) of these mythical heroes of wonder, who leave nothing but happiness and bunnies in their wake.
Edit: Oh, thought that other post of mine above got lost when Gaider moved this to the Mass Effect spoilers forum

But I liked the fact that he (like all my party members) had flaws that were annoying. That's more real than you typical follower in other RPGs that do your bidding without question. Team relations/morale is always touchy.

Two difficult choices in Redcliffe? Hmmm. I think someone is neglecting to look for other options.
