Why the hell would a rival Fenris side with mages?).

Fenris: I hate mages.
Hawke: I helped you to kill Daenerys man who you hate most, your life better because of me.
Fenris: FINE Hawke we kill templars!

Fenris don's side with mages Fenris side with Hawke.:wizard:

He was a slave his whole life, had lyrium burned on skin, hunted down and then betrayed by his own sister who was a mage...but I suppose it makes sense to side with a pro-mage Hawke out of respect if he was a rival. He can let go of his hatred and mistrust quite easily for a guy he doesn't get along with. /sarcasm ends

It only makes sense if he was on the friendship path.

How in Andraste's flaming knickers would they know what you did if they aren't in the party?

You must live in a fantasy if your companions don't interact with each other, ever.

<_<

Did you read the sentence after that? When I said "confront you" back at camp, what does that imply? Flying nugs whipsering rumors to your companions?

Varick told, Isabela told...You honestly believe Varick will not find out. He knows everything worth knowing. He literary told everything to Cassandra.

You have got to be s*****g me.

Did anyone read the sentence AFTER that or better yet, the entire response? Respond to the whole thing, not what is most convenient to you.

Didn't you play Fenris rivalry?Fenris not really hate mages he jealous of their power. Lyrium markings was his prize for victory it was his decision to have them. His sister told at the end of the quest. But I don't change your mind so believe what you want.

The only problem I had with the friendship/rivalry system was that in a small group of close companions they are bound to talk. They even show clips that they do that very thing. So why the hell do you only get the friendship or rivalry shift if you have the companion in the party. They should get the shift no matter what. Even if they aren't there, they won't like it when they hear about it later from the other companions. This would force the player to choose how they want to act and stick with it, losing some companions and keeping others due to their choices, or risk losing them all by being wishy washy.

Yes he wanted to do it, but he also got his sister and mother freed from slavery by doing it.  If he was a slave before having the lyrium burned on, which I think he was, doing this was probably better than being a slave without it.  And of course he resented mages and their power.  They are the ones who made his family slaves.

I also agree that it would make much more sense if he loved Hawke enough to join her(mine) the fight.  I did the rivalry and really didn't make sense.  I did it anyway because I could, not because it was right. :)

I agree with 9TailsFox... I think having your companions talk to each other behind your back is perfectly plausible. I also think this would add to the game by breathing extra life into the companions, similar to the party banters in DAII where companions Hawke wasn't romancing reveal that they're romancing each other.

P.S. I did read your entire response, and I don't think the companions have to confront you for it to make sense. Think of all the rumours here on BSN which people take as truth even though dev quotes/official sanction can't be found? Why would companions not listen to rumours, when real-world people do?

Yep, I LOVED the friend/rival system. It's amazing seeing how differently things turn out one way or the other.

I liked DA2's system better also BUT I did not like two things about it.

1 - There were times when they did not give you an option to "opt out" of a romance while trying to be nice about it. There are ways to tell people you don't want a romance with them while being nice about it and not rude.

2 - I want ways to pro-actively peruse a romance/friendship at the time I want to, not only to specific conversations. DAO had the gift option that kind of did this but DA2 would have been better if it had a better way to move a romance/friendship along.

What would be best if like in DAO we could pursue it when we wanted but like in DA2 it was a bit more robust and complicated sometimes causing us to have to make choices for their benefit and not ours.
