Until he locks out your powers taking seconds away from your shooting while you heavy melee the air to restore functionality to your kit.
Shield boost spamming is an epidemic.

except when they follow your javi GI or claymore fury and constantly jam you up, or when they draw attention to you on a device.

Why the hell do people drag volus into matches and just run around shield spamming? Don't they realize that they're just turning themselves into a less useful, overglorified geth turret? If all you do is shield spam, then you actually end up doing less damage than a geth turret.
if you are lucky enough to get a teammate like that play a slayer or Novagaurd

I should have followed you around and spammed Shield Boost when I was playing my Volus Watermelonprostheticlimbs wrote...

Please stop doing this. It's extremely annoying. You can't know how annoyed it makes me. I've had to rage quit a few games because of this.

It's kind've sad that alot of the BSN still thinks Shield Boost spamming and playing the Volus as "support" kits is the best way to go.

but yes, you generally should not ignore both your gun and your other 2 abilities.

Time your shield boosts to follow these yells, and cast offensive powers and/or use your gun the rest of the time.
When protecting a hacker, DO NOT stand next to him, simply stand near enouth that you can reach him if his shields drop, you can roll away from grenades, the hacker cannot.
Use cloak to reduce your own dependency on shield boost, so you can use your OTHER powers more.
Then you might cease to be a bad volus.
A good volus player is something to appreciate.

Yaaay cute little bowling ball following me around [smilie]http://social.bioware.com/images/forum/emoticons/love.png[/smilie]
Then I brought a regularly reload cancelled claymoar or javelin...

I really don't see much volus, to be honest. Even when I notice we have a shield boost spammer I'm usually rocking something with innate speed bonus and/or adrenaline mod and they wouldn't keep up anyway.

Alternatively my strategy is to use Shield Boost and Cloak to play incredibly recklessly and not die.
If the Volus have a strength, I would say that's it.

This is pretty close to my philosophy with the volus merc.Cyonan wrote...

Use the cloak and pets to draw some of the aggro off, use shield boost to sponge the rest.
I'm a mediocre player, so I use the lancer for mild risk-taking, but a shotgun toting volus is hillarious to watch in skilled hands.
The point is that there is a difference between mindless spam, and aggresive usage.
The difference? About 50 kills per game.

Too true. I was in PUG yesterday and after the match we were all in the lobby, and one of the three randoms switches to a volus, and the other random (the host) says something along the lines of "those guys are only good for shield boost. you'll basically just be refilling all our shields the whole match. pick something else."
So I switched to my volus engineer to try and prove them otherwise (didn't say anything), and then they all left.
Wah-wahhh.

Yeah, kind of true most of the time I play my volus sentinel kit offensively, its not difficult to use outside of its support role, although going on the offensive you have to be careful because its so squishy but im used it because I played a lot of GI with HM it helped a bit.

While I appreciate that you're playing him offensively, i've gotta ask why you think ANY of the Volus are squishy. Each of them have Shield Boost, which restores Shields, gives 50% DR if specd properly, and gives 1.5 seconds of invincibility, plus they have cloak, and defensive stance which also gives 50% DR and 1.5 seconds of invulnerability.
From what i've experienced, the only thing more tanky than Volus are the Juggernaut, and Kroguard.

I got pissed off at a Volus earlier. They were all scrubs so I put on a GI and told them leave me alone and we'll extract. This Volus saw my score and started following me to Shield Boost, so I told him to leave me alone or I'll get killed. Wave 8 comes and I have 5 in each consumable he shield boosts me as I'm reloading so I get locked out, a Phantom melees him while he's next to me and instakills me without me having a chance. Wipe ensues within a minute.

That's exactly the type of annoying behaviour I was talking about!!! When they start following you around everywhere, stalking you with unflagging resolve until you either rage quit or die!!! I really hate those useless volus pugs littering platinum lobbies. Ugh.
