I usually shield spam with my volus engi as I make my approach to roast baddies ankles with the reegar...I think I'm a little more lethal than a turret. And on more then 1 occasion, I've received a thank you from a teammate in need of a quick boost as well.

It's kind've sad that alot of the BSN still thinks Shield Boost spamming and playing the Volus as "support" kits is the best way to go.

Yeah, kind of true most of the time I play my volus sentinel kit offensively, its not difficult to use outside of its support role, although going on the offensive you have to be careful because its so squishy but im used it because I played a lot of GI with HM it helped a bit.

While I appreciate that you're playing him offensively, i've gotta ask why you think ANY of the Volus are squishy. Each of them have Shield Boost, which restores Shields, gives 50% DR if specd properly, and gives 1.5 seconds of invincibility, plus they have cloak, and defensive stance which also gives 50% DR and 1.5 seconds of invulnerability.

From what i've experienced, the only thing more tanky than Volus are the Juggernaut, and Kroguard.

It's the base shields and health, 150/500 is low. That's focused on regardless of i-frames and DR offered by SB and heavy melee.
Understand that I'm NOT saying they're super squishy, I'm saying that it's ths SB and HM that keeps them alive, which is something that will be used often enough to keep them alive with 0 in fitness. It takes smart application of the SB and heavy melee for some people to keep them on their feet. The vanguard and adept, in particular, easily keep the SBs(and charges for the vanguard) constant.
Cabal is also pretty tanky though, depending on the biotic focus of course.

Now THAT I didn't know about.
Does that mean that if I have 200% cooldown with consumables and gear to get the cooldown of shield boost down to 2.99 secondsor better, and I alternate shield boost and defensive stance every 1.5 seconds, invincibility is a possibility?
Would be near inpossible to perform in reality, but theorecicaly interesting...

You really don't need to worry about stringing together the I-frames, considering that if you use a Shield Boost specd for Protection (50% DR) and then go into Defensive Stance, you'll have ALOT of DR, easily enough to last you over until your SB cools down regardless of the cooldown on it.

Edit: for example, I use heavy weapons like the PPR or Typhoon on my Volus Engineer, and I rarely go down. You should NOT be having a 200% cooldown on any of the Volus unless you're packing a Hurricane. Bring something with lots of DPS.

The question was hypothetical.
Not interested in doing it, just curious if a volus could sponge geth gunfire nonstop.
Y'know, for lulz.:P
But seriously, it looks like I'm gonna have to start using defensive stance more, it might just be the missing ingredient for a big round bowl of winning!

Out of all the good Volus players i've seen, i've yet to see one use Defenisve Stance like me. It's really something people should use more.

Keep in mind that Defensive Stance also has alot of force behind it, and you can stagger any unit in the game, except Phantoms, and you can actually stagger LOCK mooks. Very useful if you're surrounded by Dragoons or a Hunter death squad. Defensive Stance to stagger -> Shotgun blast to the face.

Not my reactor. The doors don't open on my reactor. Not even Quaid could fix this reactor.

Don't get me wrong, I love the kit. I just hate the Volus as a species. Should have used some other, worth while species for those kits.

Works well on any guardians in front of her too.

Been playing the Volus much more aggressively these days leaving the noob SB spam behind.Guess it's about confidence once you know the toolbox the bodycount tends to follow with it. Still, killing in the name of hasn't prevented the old habit of the revivalist - the golden medic badge empowers as does 50+ biotic charge kills. Constantly retrieving and reviving teammates in the midst of bossville is a real rush. And if hostiles get in the way then they can talk to the pointy end of my Reegar microphone.

By squishy I meant in the health and shields but your right, in the right hands utilizing everything he has, defense stance, SB and cloak he survives pretty well and is quite tanky on his own and is quite the support teammate and is decent at the offense when its needed.

Shield Boost spamming for the 1.5 seconds invulnerability is a viable tactic.  I just do my own thing and only hang around the decoys during objectives.  Suport is for scrubs.  Coincidentially, my last game was as a Volus Adept.

Koenig, I believe TL4N meant spamming Shield Boost around team mates, and not helping with damage output. He probably meant using Shield Boost for yourself specifically is fine.

Also, if anyone wants in on the revolution that is brewing, hit me with a FR on BSN.

The constant glitch caused by sb annoys me. I had one match a while back where the volus kept spamming shield boost and glitched up my character causing the controls to freeze up. Normally heavy melee fixes it but on occassion you get a 2 min or so freeze which is inescapable.

His heavy melee bubble, if timed properly can block bosses attacks (missile, a banshee warp ball, the praetorian lasers etc.). It's very satisfactory. It's great to block the dragoon's smash as well. Between shield boost and heavy bubble, I can tank dragoons on my own during extraction on gold, something I can have trouble doing with other classes.

I ninja joined someone's bronze game with my volus mercenary a few days ago and decided to stay and play a melee volus. If you just heavy melee, the bubble animation takes quite long. But if you tap the melee button shortly after a heavy melee it cancels the heavy melee animation sooner (though if your timing is off it results in cloaking).

Is there any other way you know of that enables you to spam the bubble? I really wanna play a melee volus on higher difficulties (bubble, not gauntlet).

wrong, they are carrying classes, a good volus will always be the last one alive.

On gold, I ran a volus merc without shield boost and got the highest score using a paladin x and specing for power damage. Volus are not bad, players are bad, and shield boost spamming is both unnecessary and bad
