This has been on my mind for some time and I'm bringing it up now since this is about the 76th time I skipped Persona 3's opening. I often tell myself it's usually best to enjoy a story the way the director/developer/author intended and that learning about a piece of plot beforehand, crucial or minor, would take away from the experience.
What if the creator of a work wanted you to know about certain bits? You sometimes see plot points being exposed in trailers and openings.
I look back at how much attention I paid to Mass Effect 2 before it was released, watching a good amount of trailers, demos and interviews about the plot. Then, I wonder how much more I would have enjoyed the story if I hadn't. Because of that, I avoid openings and most trailers of any game I haven't finished. Same thing with reviews.
What are your views on developer-intended spoilers? Do they entice you to enjoy the actual experience or do they take away from it? Personally, I don't think they're necessary especially when there are openings that set the mood and context of a game pretty well like this and this.

With the new Dragon Age game I want to know as little as possible. I'll bail the forums once some concrete info comes out since topic titles will be a spoiler minefield. People wanting to know info about who your companions will be, will there will be any cameos, romance crap, etc, etc cause me to shake my head. One sniff of a spoiler and I am outta here!

Well if the developer intended you to be spoiled then that is definitely what you should do.
"Booker, are you afraid of God?
No. I'm afraid of you."
The very first lines you hear in the game.
