Where are you guys seeing this as being $80???

There was an article floating around stating that every EA game released from here on out would cost $80. I have no idea of its true validity, nor do I have a link. But that is where (I believe) these threads are stemming from.

If people actually believe that.....lol. Ah gosh.

If I were raising it to 70 bucks I'd float the idea of raising it to 80 wait for the backlash and insist we'd never do such a thing.

Agreed. I've seen no credible evidence that anyone is raising their prices above US$60. And EA certainly wouldn't do it by themselves. People like to brand them as evil and such, but their not so stupid that they'd make their prices $20 more than their competitors.

Alright, here is the story in question. I found it after some quick Google digging.

The actual info is pretty far down, under "how much will a PS4 game cost?"

It states that EA is the only publisher announcing pricing for their games, with a 55 British pounds price tag, which translates to $80 US. So it seems this is for next gen consoles only, it seems to be a shaky "fact" (who is to say EA won't change its price when other publishers announce their prices), it seems it is only semi-confirmed here for the PS4 and it seems to only be confirmed to have this price point for the UK.

I'd not fight a higher price point for games in the U.S., as I think the industry is hampering itself with a static number for games, where lower quality games aren't charged less and higher quality ones must skimp on features/timelines/budgets to meet the $60 price point (or sell more units, which can result in the dreaded "dumbing down" of series for mass appeal)... but I don't think this is definitive proof of pretty much anything.

I'd wait to see them announce a price in American dollars for a real next-gen game before making any assumptions.

It's the time to shut down gaming if it's true.

The OP is clearly concerned that the rise in video game prices is going to cut into the money he's set aside for grammar and spelling courses.

It doesn't really matter what they charge when it is released. It's EA. You will be able to find the game for half price after around a month. They do it with all of their non-sports/battlefield games. It's like clockwork.

ME3 came out. I saw it in a walmart flyer for $30 only 29 days later. (If I had bought it new for full price at best buy on release, I could have price guaranteed my day one copy to $30.) Dead Space 3 came out earlier this year. I told people "it'll be $30 by the start of April," and sure enough I saw it at that magical price by mid March.

EA (and Ubisoft) really love dinging early adopters but as soon as they get them, they put their games on a firesale. They do not value their games at all (it's a really stupid business practice.) I guarantee you'll see DA:I for $30 about a month after release.

If you don't want to wait a month, wait about a week after it comes out then get it at Best Buy. You will be able to price guarantee it to the magic price.

This applies to you too. Some people LIKE weapon packs. Or armor skins. Or small, cheap content that they can optionally put down a couple of dollars rather than having to save up for larger DLC packs.

Just because you don't like them, don't assume that applies for everyone. And, if you don't like them, don't buy them. Simple.

That's a 5 pound price drop in the UK...

I'll pay $80 for Dragon Age, sure, but the amount of other titles I choose to buy will decidedly shrink. I guess that's what my GameFly account is for...

If you guys think EA is going to start charging 80 bones for their games while the rest of market is a clear cut $20 cheaper, you're out of your mind.

If the game is good (i.e. I think I'll enjoy it), I would spend twice as much without complaint. I replay games a lot, so yes, the initial expenditure hurts, but it works out to nickels and dimes per hour in the end. If the game is not good (i.e. not something I think I'll enjoy) discounting it to $5 will not entice me to buy it.

And yeah, I'm one of those annoying people who buy all those $5 item packs. I like to dress my character in different armor/robes to suit the mission. He'll wear different armor/robes to meet some dignitary than he would to crawl through sewers.

But if they're going to do item packs, please, by all that's holy, don't duplicate the weapons. Don't give us two elemental 1H weapons that do spirit damage. Switch one of them to fire or cold or something. And not every 2H weapon needs to do purely physical damage. How about some elemental types that bypass armor.

I must be the only one who loves DA2 as much as origins........I don't care how much the bloody thing cost I'm buying it and everything that goes with it! BIOWARE has not let me down yet, and I work my ass off for things like this........so stupid price tag isn't going to make me cry.

Has this price been confirmed? I didn't think we had a really solid release date or anything yet. Just a general time frame. I'll be sure to keep an eye out for the bruise squad that is making the round forcing people to buy BioWare produces... Sounds scary. I just know Mary Kirby is part of that group. She made me love Varric after all.

Item packs are only problematic if it feels like the base game has been left short on them. Otherwise, they're clear and straightforward transactions, so I don't complain about them. I think they're really horrible value for money, but other people disagree so they can buy them and enjoy them and Bioware can make money.

As for the supposed increase in release price, I wonder if it'll make more people consider not buying on release and waiting for the price to come down. That's what I'll likely do, anyway .

$80 is a good price. I paid $80 USD for a new game in 1986, and those dollars were worth more. I see no reason why games should cost so much less now.

Even $80 now is only half of $80 then.

Honestly, I'm not sure what I'll do now. $80 dollars does seem to be too much for a video game though.

I was under the impression Microsoft and Sony announced next-gen titles will go for $60/game. But even if they do need to sell games for $80 to make them great, I say go for it. Video games (even mediocre ones) are a great value at $60. Especially compared to other kinds of entertainment.

If they were really planning on charging $80 for next gen games, then why are preorders for Battlefield 4 only $60?

It's true. I like adding little collectibles to my games like this.

I bought a bunch of armor packs recently for DA2 and beforehand I looked at the price and thought to myself, they're cheaper than a fast food meal and i'll certainly get more use out of them.

Have you seen the graphics? They were not as cheap to produce as the ones for DAO and DA2. The extra $20 is to cover the discrepancy in quality between the two.

Nobody has seen gameplay graphics - what you did see is cutscenes made with DA:I enigne and you even can't be really sure that those cutscenes will be in the game.

I do agree that better quality justifies bigger price. But!
DA2 even with better graphics however will still be meh game and will not justify 60$ not to mention 80$ ,DA:O with its original graphics deserves 60$ and maybe even 80$ price tag. .

What? Mass Effect 3 is $80 too, if you include the 2 plot essential DLCs (From Ashes and Leviathan).
